Texans win the division if... Texans beat Bengals (Week 16) Jaguars beat Titans (Week 16) or Texans beat Titans (Week 17) Titans win the division if... Titans beat Jaguars (Week 16) Titans beat Texans (Week 17) Colts win the division if... Colts beat Raiders (Week 16) Bengals beat Texans (Week 16) Jaguars beat Titans (Week 16) Titans beat Texans (Week 17) Colts beat Jaguars (Week 17) In the event the Texans do not win the division, they can grab a wildcard if... Bills beat Dolphins (Week 16) Steelers beat Ravens (Week 16) Patriots beat Dolphins (Week 17) Bengals beat Ravens (Week 17) *and* Chiefs beat Broncos (Week 16) or Raiders beat Broncos Week 17) Not sure about the matchups (looks like KC/Oakland most likely), but should make for an interesting close to the season.
Titans don't need the Bengals to beat the Texan as long as they can beat the Jags and beat theTexans. In short, the game between the Texans and the Bengals is pretty much meaningless unless the Jags will beat the Titans, which is highly unlikely.
Any combination of one more Texans win and one more Titans loss clinches the division for the Texans.
Probably not. Miami at 9-5 right now. Baltimore and Denver at 8-6 (both would own the tiebreaker against the Texans).
I think that ship has practically sailed. Edited my original post to reflect the corrections. If the Titans lose to the Jags (1PM) it will make for a really epic Saturday nighter vs the Bengals.
The most likely answer is no because I don't think we'd get the tie-breaker over the Dolphins even if it came down to that.
If Titans beat the Jags like they should, we should rest Clowney, J-Jo, Cushing, Mercilus, and any other banged up defensive players against Cincy. Let the offensive starters play because we want to give more reps to Savage.
And while that sounds ridiculous on the surface, with the head coach getting fired, they might show up motivated to show what they can do and the Titans might get caught in that trap game.
Yeah, he is terrible, but he's had 10 games in his career with over 300 passing yards and he did have a 5 TD game against the Titans once so anything can happen. I'm certainly not expecting the Jags to win, but it's an extreme trap game coming off a hard fought game in Kansas City and coming right before the final game against the Texans. If the Titans are beat up from the Chiefs game or are looking past the Jags for the Texans game then they could lose.
Again, you always miss the simple fact. The Texans will play on Sat and the Titan will play on Sun. There is no such of looking pass that game senario. Because if they will lose to the Jags, even they may beat the Texans, the division winner could be the Colts.
Mostly all the teams are playing on Saturday this week. There are only 2 games on Christmas day, neither of them involving the Titans.
If you're going to call someone out for being wrong, you should be correct yourself. He's right about the Titans playing Saturday afternoon. The Bengals game matters, though. I think you have to beat them, just in case.
Yes I did forget the playing time, but unlike the Texans, the Titan will definitely need to win out to make sure they can control their destiny, because they lost the tie breaker against the Colts. The Texans really doesn't need to beat the Bengals, if they can beat the Titans, they will win the division no matter what other outcomes will be.
From possibilities standpoint, the Texans seems to have the edge to win the division. But in reality odds, the Texans will probably at best be a less than 3 points favorite against the Bengals while the Titans will be at least a 10-14 points favorites against the Jags. The odds of both events happening in favor of the Texans will be very low. And then if it will go down to week 17, the Titans will probably be a -4/5 favorite against the Texans unless Savage will throw for 5 TDs in a blowout win next week. So as of now, the Titans will be indeed the small favor to win the division.
Meh, the Texans own the AFC South. O'Brien/Romeo know how to gameplan against division foes. I am confident going into Week 17 that our defense can hold down the Titans, and now that we have competent QB play, I believe the Texans can pull it out.
