Here's a useless fan question that has no bearing on this draft or last year's: Watching the 5 minutes of Mickey Moniak coverage after he was drafted, I couldn't help but notice how similar it looked to the 5 minutes of Kyle Tucker highlights I've seen. If Tucker were drafted this year instead of last, would he have had a shot at being #1? In short, how does Kyle Tucker compare to Mickey Moniak?
Tucker probably would have been considered. This draft was unusually jumbled at the top. As for how he compares to Moniak, as hitters close, probably edge to Tucker becuase his projected pop is better. Moniak has better speed, and profiles as a top flight CF, while Tucker seems like he may end up in the corners. Speed and defense are the most projectable tools, so edge would probably go to Moniak over Tucker as draft prospects.
Columbus Dispatch: Dawson eager to start pro career with Astros He's also the highest-drafted Buckeye since 2010, when the Twins picked Alex Wimmers 21st overall.
Ha, so true. I could have sworn he threw out a Jackie Bradley comparison for our Dawson pick, right after the Matt Lawson comp, in an effort to just get his 2 cents in. It seemed like he was immediately shot down when then other guy responds, "ya, Dawson is 6 ' 2, 225, so.."
Look for Cooper Johnson at 97 if he's there. Best available C on the board and to me probably the best available player.
The Astros start off Day 3 with... Round 3, Pick 97: Jake Rogers, C, Tulane Jim Callis: "Best defensive player in the Draft at any position."

yeah hope so too. glad we got a decent catching prospect in our minors. his floor is a backup but if his bat comes around he can be an all star.
