I posted this in another thread, but thought this is a better place for my thoughts.. It is not the worst thing to have missed out on some of the players thus far. I see the upcoming season as a opportunity for teams like the Rockets. In my opinion- for the next few years, players motivation will be driven by the potential to earn a large contract Vs. winning championships.. Making even the worst teams a bit better. Players won't quit on their teams just because of a bad record. Current teams spending crazy money on 1-2 players will be behind the eight ball once the dust settles. Every player, not yet signed to a big contract, will be playing like its a "contract year". New superstars will emerge organically. Teams like the Rockets who have been underperforming, will pick themselves up and play to their potential with pure motivation to work hard. This is now an NBA where any player can get a big deal given they play hard. The Rockets, without signing another superstar, already has a foundation that most teams could wish for. The Rockets WILL emerge as a winning team, and will do it with young, and experienced players who have everything to gain & nothing to loose. . . .
There was / is a Sacramento insider on the RealGM boards (I know, I know, "insider") who has mentioned the interest of the Rockets and other teams in acquiring Rudy Gay. I don't know the veracity of such claims. I would think we'd only do it if Skal Labissiere were attached (we seemed interested in acquiring him in the draft). Rudy and the Rockets have been mentioned before, but, again, who knows?
I would take Rudy . He is still supremely sized and athletic. Would be a great wing defender and slasher . I would love to get him for brew / beasley/ another young piece that sac wants.
A Dwight for Splitter trade is growing on me. Especially if we can get Tim Hardaway Jr. And avoid paying $70 million to Eric Gordon to be a backup.
Free agent wishlist Seth Curry for 6 mil or Ian Clark for 5 mil per year Caron Butler for 2.5 per year Amare for 3.5 mil per year (Just to provide some dirty work/toughness and help the younger guys as the jet did during his stay(One of Dantoni's Originals) Reasonable Trade Targets Brandon Knight Eric Bledsoe Rj Hunter Nikolo Vucevic Joel Embid (if possible) A combination of a few those guys with what we have now would do wonders Eric Bedsoe(def)/Seth Curry(off)/Gp2(def) Harden(off)/Rj Hunter(off)/Kj Mcdaniels(def) (Eric Gordon?(off)/Caron Butler(def)/Sam Dekker(off) Ryan Anderson(off)/Beasley(off)/Montrez(def) Nikolo(off)/Capela(def)/Onauka(def) Excellent starting rotation. This team would become one of the most potent offenses in the league. Couple that with the length, def, and athleticism of the back ups and we'd be back in contetion with the better teams.

I would take either, we are in desperate need for talent. Fit and defense be damned, we aren't going anywhere without improvments to our SF, C and PG rotations. S&T Dmo for Gay? Then sign a center. I'd take Monroe for cap space, not a great fit with Anderson on defense, but he's expiring, talented on offense/great rebounder/nice passer, might be had for nothing.
I wasn't down with the Anderson signing, but since they're going that way, I can see them doing something like: - offering Barnes or Crabbe a LOT of money - Maybe swinging a trade for Rudy Gay - I've always hated Gay, but he actually just had a decent season. Solid efficiency on reduced usage, which is what he should be. Only 1 season left really at $13 million, which is now cheap. - Trying really hard to bring over Llull. New salary era, if the Rockets have room left and can now offer $10+ million, that should be freaking tempting - If add more wing depth via the next FA acquisition, move Ariza. Target would be Eric Bledsoe Assuming they can somehow manage to ado a few of the above, the roster could be something like: Bledsoe/Llull Harden/Llull Barnes/KJ Anderson/Harrell DMo/Capela It's not exactly a championship squad, but is what it is at this point, and would certainly be entertaining basketball with MDA.
I really want Rondo and Lance Stephenson so we can get in the trenches and really team rebound. Two guards that can grab 6-7 boards a game with Harden.
