That's actually completely inaccurate. Fairbairn does have a super strong leg....I mean you don't nail a 60 yard FG that would have been good from 65 without one. I don't know how to embed a vine so here's a link instead https://vine.co/v/eV1Kd1it0qZ With Fairbairn's leg, he could get a touchback any time he wanted, hell he could kick it through the uprights from there off the tee, the goal last night was to kick it short and prevent touchbacks because a touchback gives them the ball at the 25. So knowing that, on Fairbairn's kickoffs they got the ball at the 21 and 23, no Novak's kickoff they got it at the 25.
I know he has made long kicks, but his reputation in college was as someone who made the normal and short kicks but had questionable leg strength. I know he worked really hard for his senior year to improve his leg strength. Also had a reputation for being unreliable in clutch moments. I already said I remembered it wrong in the very post you quoted.
Are we talking about his freshman year of college? Sure, as a freshman and sophomore he had some issues, but leg strength hasn't been an issue since then. Even when he had some issues from long distance as a Junior, it wasn't due to lacking leg strength, it was just missing them, every kick from 40+ yards he took as a junior had the distance. If we're talking about him now, leg strength is one of his best attributes. The only criticism is that he's missed some attempts from less than 40 yards....though less than Novak has missed in camp. If he can keep hitting those intermediate range kicks, it's a no-brainer to go with him over Novak.
