We have no idea if this is even an issue, it would be more like going to the beach when your boss says you can have the day off to rest... Sure he wants you at home resting but its not like Clowney asked to not go on the trip and is playing hookie at the casino
houston radio media has released latest pic of that trouble maker clowney. <a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/141906143@N05/28949682326/in/dateposted-public/" title="clowneydayoff"><img src="https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8657/28949682326_a4d5da4374_b.jpg" width="736" height="689" alt="clowneydayoff"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
It's disturbing because of the knee surgery he had. It is definitely not something we want to see already. If it was shoulder or something no big deal, but not his surgically repaired knee
I presume you've never had surgery. Soreness and flare ups of inflammation are pretty common. As long as the joint is structurally sound, I'm not worried.... Should be even less risky to re-injure or have post-op issues this year.
Soreness and inflammation is one thing. Getting held out for a week makes me more concerned. We don't know if it's structurally sound, Texans obviously wouldn't disclose that. If he's already getting held out then it might be not be
If it wasn't intact structurally... then he'd be heading towards season-ending surgery. Do you recall how much he really practiced and played pre-season following the surgery last year? As long as he's not overweight or has terrible conditioning, not really sure what he's going to get out of these workouts right now... its a good thing he's got youth on his side. This is a D-line that cannot afford any more players to possibly miss the start of the season. I have no issues or worst-case-scenario fears that holding him out is the best chance for him to be healthy for the start of the season.

Mostly agree except: RB: I think Grimes and Hunt are both bubble. DL: I think Joel Heath is bubble ILB: He makes this look locked up, but I think both Bullough and Dent are fighting for roster spots. Cliett and Rashad can both potentially flash enough to win a job. OLB: Same as above, I think the 4th spot is a total "bubble" spot. Coaches are high on Eric Lee. Personal thoughts: Mumphrey should not make this team. He doesn't do anything well. Radio guys keep talking about what he can do on special teams, but he's not good at it, he's just competent. You've got at a minimum three guys as roster locks that can return punts and kicks, his ability to do that just doesn't earn him any points. As a receiver he's just not good enough. I hope Josh Lenz gets serious consideration to beat out Cecil Shorts for the last receiver spot. Shorts is probably better, but his health issues should be a factor here. I hope Alfred Blue is being evaluated and not just promised a job. Once again last night, Grimes looked like a decisive runner that sees the hole, something that Blue has never been good at. I hope somebody beats out Drummond. He just does not look good to me. Gerald Rivers showed a lot of effort last night. I'd like to see him get more playing time next week to see how it translates against 1s and 2s. Fairbairn's two kickoffs that I saw were both way too short. I think both were caught at or past the 10 yard line. He needs to get it to at least the goalline, preferably inside by a hair to give our coverage team the ability to pin them.
I think Grimes playing special teams makes him less of a bubble than Hunt. Plus he is the closest they have to a power runner. The coaches like Max. I thought the short kickoffs were intentional to test the team's coverage.
Originally, I wanted Fairbairn because he could induce touchbacks and kick the farther field goals. But if consistency is a question then Novak is ok. I no longer want touchbacks with this 25 yard line rule. we can almost always stop them within that. That being said. a more powerful leg of Fairbairn could be used to almost "punt" the kickoff onto the 1 yard line and the extra height since he can still get it there and go high, would give us extra time to get down in coverage.
IMO Fairbairn is just a much better weapon and he's a guy that can solidify the kicker spot for a decade. I think it's a no-brainer to send Novak packing so long as Fairbairn keeps kicking like he did last night.
Maybe he can. He's not actually some super strong leg though. If anything he's a lot like Novak. Good accuracy on normal kicks, questionable leg for deep kicks. The kickoff issue though isn't that he didn't get touchbacks, it's that he was too short. I actually think the new rule makes kickers like him and Novak more valuable. Guys who are going to be reliable on normal field goals but don't kickoff hard enough to get touchbacks. That's going to buy us yards. However, Fairbairn has to get it closer to the goal line, can't be consistently dropping it around the 10-15.
Fairbairn's kickoffs last night: Opening kickoff to the 49er 7 yard line, returned to the 23 Fairbairn kicks into the endzone, like the -2 or -3 (actually thought this was Novak, so that's good.) 49ers return to the 21 Fairbairn kicks to the 49er 9, 49ers return to the 21 Novak only had one kickoff and it was a touchback. It was better than I remembered. As long you are getting it inside the 10 and you can hang it high enough to get our guys down there, that's good.
