Wentz going out with a broken wrist sucks.

If he's still there in the 5th-7th round, I think you take a flyer in him. Draft a QB in the first, fill out the team, and then draft Wentz late, if he's there.

the only reason the texans have done anything at all in the playoffs and otherwise was because they got lucky with arian foster who saved their ass for the many mistakes that this franchise has made.

the only way a team can win (other than with a franchise qb) is to have a franchise rb and a great defense. For 2 seasons that was the case with houston.

However, i don't see another arian foster in the texans future any time soon.

JT Barrett is a better college QB, a better pro prospect, and more likely to succeed at a different position than Cardale. Barrett has a lot of Braxton Miller in him and I could see him moving once he gets to the pros

Fact of the matter is, there's no superstar can't-miss QB in the upcoming draft. I don't think you tank in a year like this.

Doesn't matter if they tank. They're going to screw up yet another draft.

You can't "tank" if you can't win. This team is terrible...

They lose so many games; is it really tanking?

The problem with that evaluation is that it includes the period that, like the Browns, the Texans DID invest resources in a QB - that was, not coincidentally, the only period the Texans have been remotely any good. When they haven't invested in the QB position, they have been no better than the Browns and their endless QB investments. And from a fan perspective, arguably worse, because the team has no direction or hope when it starts seasons with the likes of Hoyer/Mallett. At least Cleveland fans had hope that they might be good for periods here and there.

The proper comparison between the endless-draft-picking-Browns is not with the Texans in general, but with the current state of the Texans with a coach that doesn't invest in the position.

This line of thinking is why the Texans QB situation is a disaster to begin with. You can't think it's pointless to draft a QB unless you're getting the next Peyton Manning. You'll never get a QB.

I didn't say it's pointless to draft a QB. I mean that you don't need to tank in a year like this, because a QB you get at say #12 is not going to be any different than #1

In fact #1 may set your team back worse in upcoming years because of the much higher salary.

I haven't watched them enough to make a list, but I feel like, from what I've seen, those top four guys, to me, are all pretty close. If there is any reason we escape the first and second round without drafting a QB, O'Brien and Smith should be gone.

And, if it's me, I have Carson Wentz, who broke his wrist, penciled in at the fourth or fifth round. If he's still there, you take him as well.

I think I'm in the minority because I lean towards Hackenberg as of now. Especially if you can get him in the second round. It'd be crazy to get Tyler Boyd and Hackenberg. Or a top tight end and Hackenberg.

Yup, good for Cardale, his play isn't good enough to justify him being on the field but the other guy was an idiot....pretty much like the QB situation in Houston before this week.

I have no rational reason for believing this, just a feeling, but I think Cook may be that guy who isn't a sexy or exciting prospect but goes on to be really solid player. Not elite, but in the next tier.

I've seen him the most of any of these guys. He's a very JJ Watt-esque pick. Seen as a very safe bet. Not flashy, not sexy.

Of course, no one saw Watt exploding into a superstar.

As I said, I still lean towards Hackenberg. I think it'll be him or Cook. When it's over next year, I think there are definitely three - if not four quarterbacks in the first round. Cook, Goff, and Hack definitely go in the first, in my opinion. Lynch might, too. As I said, though, I haven't watched most of these guys as much as I should. I'm not sure if that many teams will take a quarterback in the first, but I think four guys will grade out as first rounders. Someone is going to get excellent value if they all come out.

Something just keeps drawing me back to Hackenberg, though. Kid is going to be a star. He is currently just getting started against Illinois on ESPN 2. Looks phenomenal.

Added fun fact: Penn State's kicker is 5'10" 260 lbs. He makes fat Randy both look model-thin and also like a hall of fame kicker.

I can see San Fran, Chicago, Washington, us, and possibly Philly taking a QB since Bradford hasn't really worked out for them so far
