BOB has the best read and information on Hackenberg out of anybody on the planet. If he thinks this is the guy, we should pick him with our 1st round pick and that's that. He should not play around and try to get Elliott at RB and Hack in the 2nd round. There are too many teams that could go for Hack in early/mid second -- Dallas to groom behind Romo, Chargers to groom behind Rivers, Ravens, SF, NYG, Saints -- or to leapfrog us to get Hack. With our 2nd round pick, we can get a TE safety blanket, RB, WR. There are so many options. We just can't screw around with QB -- if BOB believes Hack is the guy. It gets interesting if BOB isn't all-in on Hack. Then you're talking about trading up a Goff/Wentz/Lynch. Or a trade back for value on Hack or Cook (yuck). Or waiting on one of Hack or Cook to drop to us in the 2nd round. Personally, I think BOB has had Hack in the back of his mind since he got here, maybe since he interviewed for the job. My bet is we take Hack with our 1st round pick.
If he makes it out of the first round I think he will make it to our pick in the second round. All the needy QB teams besides us should have their guy in the first round
He's actually a perfect candidate for a team looking for a capable backup. Look for a team like Dallas, Chicago, or New Orleans to possibly go after him.

This. Exactly this. I've basically said the same exact things around these parts and every bit of it is the truth.
Spoiler Spoiler I looked at the DraftTek mock the other day. There were QBs available (Wentz, Cook) but their logic was that no QB would be successful without more offensive weapons so they had us take a WR instead and Hackenberg in the 4th round, which they still graded as a "reach".
It might be better for him to go to one of those teams than to come here. Having an established QB in front of him would give him the opportunity to sit for a couple of years without the pressure of starting. Whether his fault or Frankin's, his progress was stunted when O'Brien left Penn State. It'll be good for him to get away from Franklin, but we shouldn't pretend like once he's out of that situation, he'll perform as if he had already been progressing normally. He would still need to catch up on that development he missed out on his last two years. He's not where he should be as a Junior and it will take some time for him to make up ground. He's more likely to get that time if he comes in as a backup to Brees or Romo or Rivers than he would if he were backing up someone like Hoyer.
getting a high quality running back can really take the pressure off our QB. I'd rather get a high quality RB than reach for a QB. However, if BOB is sold on Hack and picks him, he better believe his neck will be on the line if Hack fails. That's a big risk for a first round pick.
After dealing with a season of Hoyer, I think we ask BOB if he likes a QB prospect and if he says yes, we scratch them off the list and don't draft them at any point.
The only team that would take Hack in the first round would be the Texans. I guraantee you no other team would even consider him in the first.

Hackenburg would be a disaster. I don't care if BOB has worked with him and thinks highly of him…OBrien has detachment issues, as evidenced by his love for Mallett and Hoyer. If anything, the front office should pick a qb without any input from OB. OB will do a great job as a coach, but his talent evaluation is like that of a w****. Not sure what that means, but its not good.
For some reason, this totally reminded me of one of my favorite Kenny Powers lines: "Honey, I love you. I think you're a terrific girl. But you have clothes like a *****ing d******d."
