We're still essentially talking about 2014, correct? Or were you on the dump Schaub bandwagon while he was still a pro-bowl caliber QB? I agree they need the QB now... but the year after the 2-14 season, they had needs everywhere as well. Also, plenty of teams *with* their franchise QB's waste years as well... Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, NYG, Detroit... again, not saying the Texans are good to go, but they're not all that far behind any of these teams despite their lack of QB. RB's can be found (as Foster was), and are still largely going to be a product of the system they play in. They attempted to address CB last year... and again, good secondary's are largely a byproduct of what your front 7 is (or isn't) able to do. Given that they would likely never use a 1st round pick on a RB anyways... I'd say there are less needs than years past (but yes, there's still going to be needs regardless... I'd still say O-line is a need).
Looks like Cousins is not coming here:

Report: Redskins willing to give Kirk Cousins $20 million annually. https://t.co/kvDQg9PrDI pic.twitter.com/OsI2erZRP7
— Chicago Sun-Times (@Suntimes) January 10, 2016

I love how people discount Foster. Foster WAS/IS SPECIAL. You don't find those type of RBs on the street. Hell, they are rarely found in the draft.
This goes back to my Savage thread. If he comes in and wins the job, and is very good, which is still a possibility, despite what some believe, now you've wasted a first or second round pick on a quarterback, when you could have known what you had already. I guess you're better off having two good QBs, though. I see us rolling with Savage, a rookie, and someone like Daniels next year. Hoyer is gone, I think.
I really hope they decide early in the process this time. Ideally they will know who the starter is going into training camp so that guy can get most of the reps and develop some continuity with the rest of the offense.
If the top two RBs are gone, go with Hunter Henry in the 2nd and add a RB via free agent. I always thought the plan was to allow the rookie QB to compete with Savage and a veteran. Look at the team's that had to start backup QBs, having a good backup is a good problem to have.
Not discounting how special Foster was... just saying that guys like him DO slip through the cracks, he WAS found on the street, and he had the perfect system (Kubiak's ZBS) that brought out the best in him. You're right that its hard to find a guy like him in the draft... especially since he was not found in the draft. Most teams should be using a committee approach at RB as is. It's also not that surprising that other than in Minnesota, there's not a year to year stud bell-cow RB in the playoffs.
The Texans have been trying to find the next Arian the past couple years. Grimes, Blue, Hilliard. It's time to just go the traditional route.
11 of the 12 playoff teams this year can attest to having abandoned (either by choice or injury) the traditional route. You certainly need more talent than what the Texans showed... But the stud bell-cow RB is a dying breed in the NFL. And if you have one, it's rare that he will get through the season injury-free.
You never waste a pick on a QB. Savage has shown that he gets hurt really easy so I'm sure the drafted QB will get some playing time. If he comes in and plays well then he'll be worth a lot in a trade. No way you go into next season hoping Savage is your man.
You say that, but IMO it was WAY worse going into this season thinking Hoyer was your man than it would be going into next season hoping Savage is your man. I'm not trying to say that I wouldn't draft someone if there was a QB I liked that fell but you have to take into consideration how stupid they've been about the QB position recently.

9ers could be passing on a QB if this is true:

I'm hearing some information about who the 49ers like in the upcoming draft and free agency. NFL is littered with early round QB casualties year after year after year. I see tons of bust potential in this upcoming QB draft class as well. On the vet front, Brees is amazing but he doesn't want to leave. All of the other good/great vets signed long term except Stafford. Which makes this a terrible time to need a QB. Because of such crap timing I think you need to gamble a bit and look at guys like RG3 and Kap because they've done it before. Two other gamble guys, Mike Glennon who was supposed to be the franchise guy but Lovie and Jameis ended that. And Ryan Nassib who has gotten great reviews but won't supplant Eli. Both want to start. It will be interesting to see what Texans decide to do.
But you still have the Browns, Rams, and Eagles who pick before the Texans and need Quarterbacks. We still don't know what the Jets are going to do about the QB situation.
