That's a waste of a 1st round pick. Romo is still on contract and is not that old. The biggest reason is that they have bigger needs i.e. RB.

This is a perfect storm for the Texans. Theyre gonna get a QB (hopefully a franchise one) and they may be able to bring in a legend to tutor him (Manning or Brees). Win now and win later.

I'm still team Wentz all the way. We're in perfect position to take him in the first.

    [rquoter]The Christian Hackenberg decision

By now, all those who have seen the early NFL mock drafts know that the prospective quarterback whose stock apparently has dropped most is Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

It has even been said that Hackenberg should return for his senior season in 2016 now that James Franklin has hired Joe Moorhead away from Fordham as Penn State's new offensive coordinator. The argument for staying in school is a reasonable one, as Hackenberg's performance and game tape has dropped him out of first-round consideration, at least as of right now.

However, those who know Hackenberg see little chance he will return for his final season. As a top high school quarterback who had his taste of what it's like to be tutored by an NFL coach when he worked under Bill O'Brien as a true freshman in 2013, the anticipation is Hackenberg believes what he needs is the NFL -- now.

Yes, he's probably not going to be a top-10 pick. His bad moments in Franklin's offense are ugly and, ultimately, a player has to accept some blame.

Nevertheless, his freshman growth under O'Brien and offensive coordinator George Godsey culminated when Penn State went on the road to ruin Wisconsin's BCS bid in the season finale. Hackenberg threw for 339 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Nittany Lions, who were 24-point underdogs. Then O'Brien was hired away by the Houston Texans.

"It's [brutal] what's happened to Hackenberg," said a long-time personnel director. This personnel man is not affiliated with the Texans but many who know of O'Brien's affinity for Hackenberg believe that Hackenberg's floor in the draft is wherever Houston is slotted in the first round.

"Even then, it's not difficult to envision a couple of other teams take a hard look at him before the Texans pick," said the personnel director. "I think what you'd want to know is how much damage has been done to his confidence. You certainly want to know if he is resilient enough to go through the hard knocks of playing quarterback in our league, too." - CM[/rquoter]

I'm in the minority here, but I'd prefer Hackenberg second of all the quarterbacks. But in the second round.

    Wentz
    Hackenberg
    Goff
    Cook
    Brissett.

Believe it or not, I'd trust whoever BoB draft for QB if it's done in the 1st-round.

the QBs, talent wise, aren't bad in this year's draft. So, we're gonna have our chance if we decide to take it.

The talent isn't necessarily bad in relation to other QB classes, but it's not exactly good either. It's just kind of average. And when you consider that most QBs don't pan out, even those taken in the first two rounds, it makes it a little underwhelming. It's certainly possible the Texans could find their guy, and it's worth the risk, but possibly taking the 3rd or 4th guy in an average QB draft doesn't necessarily make me optimistic. Hopeful, but not optimistic.

Not that this means everything (or anything) but of the top 5 QBs, one is from a non-P5 school, one plays in the FCS division and is injured and hasn't played most of the year, and two are guys with size and tools who have disappointed and/or underwhelmed in actual games. Again, not saying we can't pick from that group and have them pan out, but it also doesn't scream "oh yeah, we're definitely getting a franchise QB" either.

I'd be upset if it were Hackenberg in the first. 2nd (or 3rd, if he lasts that long), I might be OK with. But I can't justify drafting a guy in the Top 20 based on tools with little body of work to back it up. Tom Savage has tools. If you're going to draft a QB in the first round, you need show more than size and a good arm.

I know Penn State had problems and it doesn't tell the whole story. But holy crap, he only completed 53% of his passes. He had more games where he completed less than 50% of his passes than he did more than 60%. He had 6 games where he threw for less than 200 yards. IMO, it's too much of a risk to take him early and assume he'll put it all together in the pros.

I think the only reason he gets mocked high is because people are reading into the O'Brien connection. If O'Brien weren't an NFL coach, I don't think there's any way you see him being mocked that high.

And I don't buy that O'Brien's definitely going to take him just because he coached him one year in college. The Texans have a lot of problems with their drafting, but overdrafting guys in relation to where they're expected to go isn't one of them. I honestly don't think the Texans will reach for Hack in the first, and maybe not even the second.

I too would be highly upset if they were to pick a QB in the 1st. Wouldn't be surprised though.

I wouldn't be upset with Hackenberg, like I said, mainly because O'Brien knows him. Of all the QBs in the draft, O'Brien knows Hackenberg the most, and has the best ability to project what his pro potential is. Because of that, if O'Brien is game with him, then so am I. I would prefer him in the second, though, with a nice skill position player first (Elliott or a WR with speed)

I don't necessarily think it's a given, though, that we take him because of the connection.

I do, though, think that much of Hackenberg's troubles at Penn State have to do with system fits and lack of an offensive line. His offensive line was absolutely terrible for him. I think that, coupled with him not being coached up on how to deal with a terrible offensive line, have lead to some bad habits developing. I think they're pretty easily corrected, though.

Like I said, my ever changing list, as of now, goes something like this:

    Wentz
    Hackenberg
    Goff
    Cook
    Brissett

I don't know a ton about these QB's but am really intrigued by Goff. I am sure Aaron Rodgers comparisons are premature and only because they both played at CAL but I remember the UT defensive coordinator heaping loads of praise on this guy before they played. Maybe just to show he was about to get torched on defense but he compared his abilities to Rodgers and was confident he will be a stud. Seems like the chart above shows some pretty cool stats for Goff as he seems to throw it all over the field with above average success. Seems like a good leader too from what I have seen.

Follow the John Elway model and figure out a way to get Brees. Instantly become a contender for 2-3 years while you groom the next guy.
