2016 Astros Minor League Thread

That's been the plan all along.

 

Gilberto Celestino was promoted from the Dominican Summer League to the rookie Gulf Coast League. A little surprised by that.

.279/.388/.434 in the DSL, 25 walks/23 k's

 

I went to see Fresno play Las Vegas last night and really enjoyed seeing Tony Kemp at 2nd and in LF. He's just a good ball player, Made a great diving catch in the outfield. Aside from that, Brady Rodgers pitched pretty well, and Teoscar Hernandez just looks legit.

 

Tony Kemp should have a long MLB career at second, just not with the Astros.

 

Forrest Whitley allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3 innings today. Had 7 strikeouts.

 

Whitley is gonna be a beast.

 

I think you are probably right. It's a shame because I really love the way he plays the game. He looked very good and comfortable in the outfield, but he's clearly a big league second baseman.

 

Some guns had him over 100 on 3-4 pitches.

 

3 Hr's since 7/27. Hopefully its a start

Scouts kept saying there is power there, it was just not coming out.

 

Ah, the forgotten part of the Giles trade. If he can turn himself into a valuable prospect the Giles trade will be even harder to evaluate in the next few years. Also, one year the trade could be a bust and then next year could be gold. you just never know.

 

Whitley moving up to Greeneville. Beast.

Uh, yeah. He's a tall lanky teenage kid with a sweet swing. Let the guy fill out a bit.

 

Knock on wood and all that in the future, health permitting that kid is going to be something. He has a great head on his shoulders.

 

Interesting that after 4 games and 7.1 IPs the Astros are moving him up. One could hardly argue that Whitley earned the promotion given the SSS.
