Goldstein's high on Cesar and Laureano, it seems. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NameToRemember?src=hash">#NameToRemember</a> <a href="https://t.co/rZm6ADs02J">https://t.co/rZm6ADs02J</a></p>— Kevin Goldstein (@Kevin_Goldstein) <a href="https://twitter.com/Kevin_Goldstein/status/756300868966842368">July 22, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AnotherNameToRemember?src=hash">#AnotherNameToRemember</a> <a href="https://t.co/DU9EzMI7Hg">https://t.co/DU9EzMI7Hg</a></p>— Kevin Goldstein (@Kevin_Goldstein) <a href="https://twitter.com/Kevin_Goldstein/status/756304049100554240">July 22, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Was at the game tonight; my $.02: Every position player for Fresno except Kemmer looked legit. No scrubs in the whole bunch. Heineman has an elite contact tool. His lack of power severely limits his upside but he will have s long major league career. Singleton is huge and strikes out too much. Kemp has speed and will never be more than s versatile bench player but he will play that role well for a long career. Moran is NOT a shortstop. He hit the ball hard. White has a below average arm but all in all I think he can handle 3B. Surprised he hasn't played there more. Tucker is short. Bregman didn't get any balls hit to him in LF. Also not much to judge from his ABs. Not underwhelming just not a lot happening. Teoscar looks the part. Very good lookin prospect running the bases and the outfield and hitting the ball hard. Shirley is a non-prospect. Gustave throws hard and is a very typical pitcher for his type.
Forrest Whitley allowed a run on a single, walked 1, and struck out 2 in his first professional inning.
He is a bigger dude but I wouldn't say fat, based on how he looked yesterday. He moved surprisingly well. I certainly don't think he could be anybody's everyday 3B but if he was a bench bat and needed to be the backup and play there once a week I think he could handle it.
Went to the game as well and agree with your assessment. It was only one game and they were all pretty hamstrung offensively by some good pitching by the Express so it was difficult to assess overall. I was excited to see Bregman play and hoped to see him impress. He did rip one hard line drive but it was right at someone.
People haven't talked much about Myles Straw, but he's having an excellent year in Quad Cities. Straw was drafted in the 12th round last year after slashing in the .400s in the JUCO ranks. Not much power, but Baseball America rated Straw as the fastest runner in the system in the 2016 Prospect Handbook, and he does the things a leadoff man should.... like getting on base. Currently slashing .346/.413/.436 and on an 8-game hitting streak. Straw has a .428 BABIP this season so he is due some regression. But he has 70 grade speed and appears to have solid contact ability and plate discipline, so the tools are there to be a pretty good player.
