Yep. He was quick to shift to his knees and blocked balls well, but he had a noodle arm and was fidgety as a receiver.

Still shocked that the Dodgers traded Alvarez for so little in return. Why spent $4 million to sign him, only to deal him for a fringe bullpen arm a few weeks later? Seriously. I'm genuinely befuddled by this.
Francis Martes put up another good start in AA tonight: 7 IP, 3H, 0ER, 0R, 1BB, 4K Surprised he hasn't made is way up to AAA yet. He's been nails for the last couple of months. J.D. Davis hit his 20th dinger of the season. Way down on the 3rd base pecking order but still moving forward.
Agreed. Very weird. Francis Martes with another brilliant start -- 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs. Only 4 Ks, but an efficient 92 pitches.
You and me both. I'd of expected a minor league player no longer viewed with high potential. But the Astros landed a potential big reel out of Josh Fields.
Fields has a career 2.93 fip and 11.1 k's/9, he's also controllable for another 2 years so there's value there. Also, 19 year old hitters excelling in the DSL is pretty common and he is a first baseman so he'll have to hit a ton to ever make the majors. The Dodgers did spend $4m on him but they spent $92m on international free agents that year so he was a drop in the bucket to them.
They're bringing him up slowly. They probably think he has Ace potential if developed correctly. Should be in the Astros Rotation by June 2017.
Slowly? He's a 20 year old already in AA. He was in three levels last year. He's being moved along at a good pace.
I think a lot of people expected Martes to be in AAA by the end of 2016. He has overall had a good year but not dominant. His strikeout rate remained at over one an inning, he continued his amazing ability to not give up home runs and he showed the ability to go deep in games and not tire. He had a tough start to the season and had to adjust his mechanics, but including that period of time still has a 2.70 FIP on the year and has been getting progressively better. The only thing he needs to work on is the walks. If he gets that under control and he will be very tough.... a pitcher with 2 elite pitches and 2 other solid pitches; that strikes out a hitter an inning, can pitch deep into games and doesn't give up homers? Almost hard not to be a good big league pitcher.
He was rapidly advanced last season, but this year is a different story. He's up to 26 starts at AA total. It's probably too late in this season but he's been amazing over the last 3 months. In 14 starts since the beginning of June: -ERA 2.48, FIP 2.07 -K/9 10.03, BB/9 2.38 or K% 28.4% , BB% 6.7% -Batting Average against: .200 -WHIP 0.99 Flat out domination.
Enoli Paredes is a pretty intriguing GCL arm. He was signed for just $10K in February and is already 20, but he appears to have plus present stuff. He allowed just 1 hit and struck out 7 over 3.1 scoreless today. Armenteros with another really good outing for Corpus. He might sneak into the organizational top 10.
Maybe a little too late for him to realiticly be in the Astros core future, but Moran had himself a 3-4 now gut with a HR. He's up to 10 for the season. But it's not too late to rebuild or his trade value.
Does anyone read Fresno box scores and think "oh yeah... Singleton". The fact that he is so forgettable shows that the contract he signed was worth it. He got life changing money for being a AAAA player. We didn't lose that much in the deal and had a secure lock on his future while he got paid for being a less than replacement level player.
