Wishing him good luck and happy for him to be able to play for his home town team. It didn't work out here, but I have no hard feelings towards the man.

But all he talked about was winning and helping a team win a ring?

Nowadays you do have players taking less money...Wade, Lebron, Whiteside may do it, Dirk, TD...if you want to win, you do it...and he is at the end of his career, so he fits the criteria...the point is he's been lying all this time when he talked about winning....which we knew already....i get why he did it, but it explains why so many fans stopped supporting him.

What is the purpose of that. It's not like he's going to be able to catch it and do something with it in the post. If they foul him he can't shoot free throws.

I wish Dwight well. Nothing but good feelings towards the guy. He was our best playoff performer over his tenure here. He had nothign but good words for the team and city.

He was great for the city of Houston as a whole, a great ambassador. Very giving to the charities

Too bad it didn't work out. So many reasons why but Dwight is NOT rason #1, #2 or # 3 as to why it didn't work out for him at the Rockets

I reckon he will have better seasons at ATl than he did here.

Dwight to Hawks will give the hawks a strong rebounding edge. I've said it before, he'll be happy once he's on a winning team (provided they continue to win).

Can you blame him for wanting to try to help his team win and asking for post touches? Surely his post touches were better shots than Brewer's threes or mid range twos?

Every player in every sport talks about winning and helping teams win a ring. And 98% of them will take the biggest contract offer out there. They all DO want to win a ring - but they want to make money and be appreciated too. It's a little different in the NBA because of the max contract system, which means a bunch of teams can only offer the same amount, so you can then pick the better team. But you see it more pronounced in the NFL and MLB with players going to crappy team because it's ultimately a business and they (rightfully) want to maximize their income.

The players you named are the exceptions I was referring to. Dirk and TD are pretty unique in general. Lebron makes virtually all his money from endorsements and non-NBA things so winning rings nets him more money than a bigger NBA contract. Wade did take less, though with the promise of more - he's had contract disputes the last couple of years with Miami because of it. Whiteside was offered a max contract - he basically came out and said he wanted a max deal.

Great deal for both Dwert and Atlanta, they have a good defensive coach who will work wonders for Dwight's game. If he's healthy I expect Dwight will make all the hater look foolish next season.

Plus, Dwight signed a contract that is almost on par and actually a year shorter than what Memphis gave Parsons, what were Memphis thinking? You'd rather give that money to freaking Parsons than Dwight?

Lots of well wishes to Dwight, he chose Houston too bad it didn't work out. Also, he was very professional and opted out immediately when he could have drawn it out just to make a clean break and ensure the Rox know what they're gonna be dealing with.

Whiteside agreed to take a little less if Miami can get KD to commit.

Dwight was offered 21/yr, but wanted more, agreed on 23.5 per year. He could have taken 21 to help Atlanta retain Horford more easily...it's not like he would be taking an extremely low amount...but he wanted the money.

    BOOM

Sources: Tremendous momentum for Hawks in final hours, w/ Horford returning and giving Hawks chance. Dwight didn't accept 7 mill less and in the end, that's what basically killed the chance of him playing with Horford and atlanta having a a much better team.

whatver it is, it's real....Clearly, Atlanta saw the difference coming, so i have to believe they told Dwight that's why they offered less and Dwight didn't go for it.

LMFAO!!! Dwight will revert to his old FT shooting habits once pressure enters the equation. The guy has declined as a player and only the folks who haven't watched him believe otherwise. He's still a good NBA center but not a star anymore, but hey congrats on getting that money Dwight! The Hawks better hope the league gets rid of the "hack-a" strategy or Dwight will frustrate their fans with his FT shooting. He is what he is at this point (30 years-old).

[rQUOTEr]In meeting with Hawks, Howard showed willingness to be coached

Dwight Howard was described as humble and showed a willingness to change and be coached in his free agency meeting with the Hawks last week.

    Time will tell.

The Hawks agreed to a three-year, $70.5 million contract with the eight-time All-Star center. The move, coupled with the re-signing of their own free-agent Kent Bazemore, was part of the reason the team parted ways with Al Horford.

Howard had issues upon leaving the Magic after eight seasons. His one season with the Lakers left much to be desired. In the past three seasons with the Rockets, the pairing with James Harden proved not a good fit. Howard opted out of the final year of his contract with the Rockets.

There were overtures that Howard wanted to return to his hometown of Atlanta throughout last season. Also, those close to Howard believed the Hawks were indeed his first choice when he entered free agency. Just hours after a lengthy afternoon meeting last Friday, the Hawks and Howard agreed to a deal.

Current Hawks player Kyle Korver admitted the team will have to make adjustments with Howard at center. He’s simply a different player than Horford.

“He definitely adds a whole different dynamic that what we’ve had,” Korver said Tuesday. “We are going to have to evolve as a team. It sounds like he really wants to get himself back on track and prove that he is among the elites. It’s exciting for us. There is a ton of potential. I think we have to evolve as a team a bit. There is no doubt about that. He plays differently than Al. But I think there are a lot of new possibilities and potential and we are excited about it.”

Howard’s answers to questions about his willingness to accept a role and be coached was a key reason the Hawks offered him a contract.

According to Howard’s agent, Perry Rogers, Howard was “very impressed” with the vision for the Hawks’ franchise of owner Tony Ressler, coach Mike Budenholzer and general manager Wes Wilcox. The building of a state-of-the-art practice facility, in partnership with Emory Healthcare, was seen as proof the organization is committed to winning.[/rQUOTEr]
