I would absolutely love a move for help on the back end of the pen Marisnik and Appel for Chapman?? Having said that, if we do nothing else, I won't be sad at all!! This team is ready to rock and roll
No, thanks. Personally, I would prefer not to give up Appel solely for a closer. The Astros' bullpen is pretty strong as is. That said, I'm certainly not opposed to dealing Appel in a package to get both Ross AND Kimbrel.
If SD indeed sells, then yea i'd rather that kind of package. The longer this goes and SD does nothing at all though, makes me wonder if they are really selling, or if they were just seeing if they could get people to overpay. Chapman would be here this year and next at least. Personally, I would move Appel for him. But, obviously Luhnow and the front office sees every pitch he throws, and I basically see the numbers and stories, so have to trust him to make the right move
yep, I'm on the same page here. Back-end bullpen help is valuable, but we are #4 in bullpen ERA. Don't give up a big chip in Appel just because it's being asked..
Bud Norris has been designated for assignment and supposedly the Padres are trying to shed their version of Starlin Castro in any trade for a pitcher.
There's not much need or sense for adding another starter like Ross (team is already loaded with #4 type rotation guys in McHugh, Fiers, Feldman and Velasquez) Plus I don't like giving up the additional prospects. Clearing up the logjam in CF with Marisnick + Appel for Chapman gives the Astros the elite closer a championship team needs.
Considering all of the video game style trades he made to start the year, I'd say that he is definitely over his head. It's as if he won a "Be GM of Your Favorite Team for a Year" contest.

Its almost harder to do what he does (and still throw the ball where you want it) than just pitch "normally".
Thats not even close to how he's been described from all the places I've read up on him. And he'd be the #4 starter on the Astros so...
That's not necessarily a thing. Sometimes a WS champion has a great closer, sometimes he's alright, and sometimes he's unexpected/unpredictable. The Astros have a top 5 bullpen already. I'd be good with improvement, but not at crazy expense. http://www.blessyouboys.com/2013/6/...-champions-tigers-closer-rumors-jose-valverde http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/30/s...-have-surprise-endings-with-closers.html?_r=0
Not the point he was making. The guy is a fringe #2 and solid #3. Yes, he would be the 4th starter but his talent exceeds that of a #4... so...
