Again man....the keyword here is PROSPECTS! We are going all in THIS year, and not waiting until next or whatever. They believe they can take care of business now, and a guy like Kimbrel will shut out whoever in the 9th inning of close games. Why do you need Marisnick now that we have Gomez?
I think Carter may have played his last game as an Astro. With Lowrie, back I think the Astros are content to go with a 1B/3B platoon of Lowrie, Valbuena, Singleton, and Margo. Tyler White may factor in if Singleton doesn't get his s**t together. As for Marisnick, I'm not wild about trading him unless he has good value on the market. We are really thin in the OF until Springer gets back.
The Astros are not going all in this year. Gomez and Fiers have 4 or 5 combined club controlled years. Kazmir is a relatively inexpensive rental to the other rentals. Kimbrel is under contract for several more years. Basically, the Astros have acquired three decent to great MLB players at the cost of two top 10 prospects and about 4 prospects from the 10 to Top 30 range. The guys the Astros seem to be after the most at this point are not rentals. Granted, if other teams are willing to send them enough club controlled likely productive MLB years, the Astros are completely willing to sell prospects. Nothing is guaranteed in baseball. The Astros are allocating more resources towards this year than expected before the season, but they are still going to maintain long term goals as you never know what will happen in the playoffs.
I heard a plug yesterday for a Carter appearance on Saturday at an Academy or Whataburger (can't remember which). I thought, "that's awful presumptuous".
Its already on the verge of being "restocked" after just one draft a few months ago. Bregman is on the fast-track. Farrell is as well. Tucker/Cameron have pretty good pedigrees and could ascend swiftly. We still have yet to see debuts from some of the higher level guys. The majority of our core is under 25. We got this.
The less news about this the better... little leaked prior to Gomez and Kaz trades, and both were being worked on for "weeks". The fact that stuff is out there right now is likely more from the Pads doing than the Astros.
Agreed. But assuming, if no more deals (and once Springer is healthy), your starting OF (L-to-R) is Tucker, Gomez, Springer - Rasmus and Marisnick become awfully redundant, don't they? I'd prefer they keep Jake for the late inning PR/D role - but he (likely) has trade value; Rasmus does not. Boy, if I'm SD, the thought of turning Marisnick loose in CF is mighty intriguing. Of course, SD is run by dolts, so... who knows?
Interesting, good point. Considering Kimbrel's contract is ascending based on the info below we might make a good match for Padres if they will take Feldman + Marisnick/prospects. We could even throw in a little cash too? Would be kind of a weird trade but if Yankees are okay taking his full contract, they may not be offering much at all in the way of prospects. If I am San Diego, I would want B prospects + partial contract savings rather than full salary dump with C level prospects in return. Anyone agree with this possibility? Kimbrel gets a $1 million signing bonus and salaries of $7 million this year, $9 million in 2015, $11 million in 2016 and $13 million in 2017. The Braves have a $13 million option for 2018 with a $1 million buyout.
I love the way Feldman went from our "Ace" entering last season to our 6th or 7th best starting pitcher.

And Feldman is still the same pitcher the Astros signed last season. Talk about an infusion of talent on the club. Keutchel, Kasmir, McCullers, Mchuge, Fier, Velazquez.......... Last season McCullers was falling on the prospect lists. Velazquez was a huge question mark. Most though of Keutchel as a warm body to hold a spot till Appel made his debut later that year. And today Feldman is the 7th best starting pitcher on the staff.
