Looking back at the Hamels stuff and it has become more clear to me. It is likely that he would just rather play in Dallas where his wife's family lives.... He and his reps had to have known it was probably going to be either one or the other.

A "major haul" for Tyson Ross?

Yeah, if that's the case, count me out. I'm not sure I'd give up too many of our top prospects -- or even one -- for Tyson Ross.

Astros County has been doing a running post on trade rumors the past couple of days.

Here's the most recent entry for today:

9:54am: Jon Morosi apparently said on MLB Network that the Astros are talking about Ross or Cashner "plus" Kimbrel. Kimbrel is under team control through 2017 with a team option for 2018. Ross is under team control through 2017, Cashner through 2016.

I don't think he "wants" to go anywhere... but he has to. He has no say on a trade to Dallas since they weren't on the list. Doesn't mean he "loves" it there, but its obviously more ok with him and his family than Houston is.

He's going to love roasting on those stupid late afternoon games.

3rd highest GB% for SPs, 2.75 FIP, nearing his prime, controllable. Good chance the combination of Strom and our defense would turn him into an All-Star.

Ross is a guy that if we had him, people would throw a fit if we talked about giving him up

If we don't do something I really fear that when we start limiting Lance we are gonNa be counting on a guy like Straily in addition to Feldman to get us there

I don't want this year to be for not

He's a better pitcher than Cosart. You were upset that the Astros received a major haul for Cosart when the Astros had no chance to make the playoffs. Astros could probably get Ross for everything they received in the Cosart trade (Marisnick, Moran, Martes, and Cameron) when they are likely to to the playoffs.

Ross doesn't have a flashy name, so many don't appreciate how good he is. Look at his numbers over the last 3 years before you roll your eyes.

He is really good, and he has peripherals that play anywhere. He isn't the best pitcher available, but he is team controlled for 2 more years, so you have to pay a premium. If we could add him and re-sign Kazmir our rotation for the next 2 years looks spectacular.

Tyson Ross is the pitcher that we hope Appel or Feliz becomes, and we would have him locked in for a little while. People need to get over the prospect lust.

This, all of this. Also would allow us to re-sign Kazmir and still have a dynamite rotation (where as Hamels probably didn't give us that opportunity).

    Agree completely on Ross

Philly kicked in a lot financially to make the Hamels deal work though, they took 30+ million in bad contract and threw in 10 million. Figure that in and the financial cost for Hamels wasn't high for Texas. Philly must have wanted prospects much more than salary relief

I am guessing Philadelphia would have taken Feldman in the deal had Hamels wanted to come here.

Now this could be a game changer if they are willing to make Carrasco available.

Yea probably, but the 10 million Feldman has left and the 32 million Harrison has coming are obviously a lot different. I'm guessing Philly would have thrown in a LOT more than the 10 million if he came here. In the end, he didn't want to be here so screw him. Hope he kicks the Angles butt a couple of times this year, and then he comes to MMP and gets rocked!

They're like the Rangers of the AL East.... didn't realize their farm had that many blue chip prospects, but I guess they're not going to waste much more time of building from within.
