Oh, nevermind. I misinterpreted. Thought he meant Houston in 2nd sentence.

Nah, I still read that as they're nowhere close on what the Rangers would have to give up.... not that they're nowhere close on what the Astros are willing to give up.

So much this. It's just the nature of media these days, and it renders it all essentially worthless since you can't really trust any of it.

It looks like Dodgers got Latos + a comp pick for a non prospect. Maybe I'd feel differently if it was my money but I would have loved if the Astros partnered with Miami for this salary dump. We all know how well Luhnow & Co do with comp picks and Latos > Feldman.

    Off of Fangraphs:

Latos is a known locker room cancer. I'd prefer paying a bit more for a Kazmir than someone that could screw with the great chemistry this team currently has.

Inside Pitch on Sirius is saying the LA/Miami trade fell through, no trade. No details though.

I would agree him and Cueto are in Tier 1, I don't think he is a tier above Cueto

In any case, he is going to get paid without a doubt. But if you are a team looking to sign someone to a big contract, and they keep pushing the price higher and higher, and there are other very good candidates available, it will effect negotiations to a certain extent

As I said originally, I've never been a believer that trading for a guy gives you a better chance to sign him. Just something about Price and our current situation that makes me think it would make a difference.

I don't think its as simple as that Nick

If there is that one team willing to pay whatever it takes to get him and particularly him, then yea he probably will

A lot of really good starters on the market next year though, there are other options available

Maybe you are right, maybe he will just say "oh no, Max got this and i'm getting more than Max, somebody got to pay me that"

    I just don't see that being the case . . .

Why not? Not sure he'll even have to "demand" it... several teams may just give it to him (and he's likely going to be "worth it"... in terms of best available free agent starting pitcher).

Game is flush with cash... several BIG market teams are going to be looking for pitchers (wasn't the case last off-season). The Red Sox need to get back to winning, the Cubs are now done with their "rebuild" and will be adding a big name, the Yankees are still the Yankees (and could use at least one more starting pitcher), and the Dodgers are most definitely going to be in the market for a starter.

The freakin Nationals gave Scherzer the $210 million... not sure why the other teams above wouldn't be capable of that as well (or, even more money per year, for less years).

Its also not like Scherzer is some once in a generation player like A-Rod was when he got his "still" ridiculous 10 year deal almost 15 years ago.

I'm looking at the facts of the marketplace in 2015... seems pretty clear that he's going to get a tad more than the 22 million/year that Hamels gets now (and by tad, more than the 3 million bump you're suggesting).

Really keen on Ross. Dude is a GB machine pitching with a terrible defense behind him.... combine our OF defense with Strom and watch out.

I really want Adam Lind and a outfielder, either Carlos Gomez/Carlos Gonzalez/Justin Upton.

If we could replace Singleton with Lind and Tucker or Rasmus for a new OF, our lineup would be incredible, especially when Lowrie and Springer come back.

    1. Springer - RF
    2. Altuve - 2B
    3. Correa - SS
    4. Gattis - DH
    5. Gomez/Gonzalez/Upton - LF
    6. Lowrie - 3B
    7. Lind - 1B
    8. Conger - C
    9. Marisnick - CF
