I suppose you could move McHugh. Pretty risky with Kazmir potentially walking and the payroll jumping up as Keuchel and Ross (in this scenario) start to see big salary jumps (not to mention Kimbrel and Upton just being added). Feldman doesn't net you much in terms of prospects that you're mentioning to replenish the system at all. Fausto is already getting cut for Lowrie. If Springer is ready before September callups, then Singleton is already getting demoted for him. So without those 2, who are you moving out? That's why specifics matter. It feels like you'd move out Qualls or Fields for Kimbrel. And then trade McHugh for the spot for Ross. Demote/trade VV for Cashner? Seems like too close of a wash/waste. And cut Carter for Upton? Maybe. Given the salaries, I can't see how those moves make sense
Velasquez would be gone in the deal, and you could see a guy like Fields go to SD as well. We would not make that massive deal though.

I really think they can get whoever they really want... they have the prospects and financial flexibility that others don't... and can likely win a prospect bidding war if they really want to. If they really wanted Cueto, they could have beat KC's offer. If they really want Hamels, they can outbid the Dodgers, Yankees, and especially the Angels. If they really want Lind, they certainly can offer more than St. Louis... etc. Its sort of like free agency in that respect... but of course, the Astros front office will ultimately have a limit on how "high" they will be willing to go.
"#Astros and #Dbacks are both on Hamels' no-trade list. It will be interesting to see what happens if they make best offers." Think Hamels would block a trade to us? I don't see why he would at this point :\
Easy to say from our viewpoint, but it's his life. If he doesn't want to spend 3 years of it living here, he's entitled (through his no-trade clause) to make that decision.
Money will talk... If the Astros guarantee that option year, he will be here (pressing they have the best offer). Something tells me that it will all come down to giving him that 4th year. I've already said I wouldn't be the biggest fan if his contract actually prevented other resignings or improvements at the time... But then again, I do want him for this year and next year for sure... And with more winning and revenues, that will more than makeup for the yearly cost of that 4th year.
He already said that list was made awhile ago... When one team was expected to be better than the other.
That would be the Phillies leaking that... In order to try and drive up the offer from Houston. Not sure how that sort of "rumor" would be started any other way. I also don't think Luhnow would be wasting his time if he had the slightest suspicion that Hamels would block the deal in the end.
This is very true, it's all about how much Luhnow wants to move prospect wise, and how much Crane wants to spend money wise I would usually not want to give up too much of the prospects at this point in the rebuild, but this year there just isn't a team in the AL that I look at and say "dang I want no part of them in the playoffs"....so i'm definitely on board with going hard after Hamels and Lind
It was made after last season, but it is the reports that he wouldn't waive it for Houston, but would be happy to go to Arlington. Those reports may or may not be accurate, but it annoying.
