Carter was a nearly 2 WAR player last year and is in his prime. A near average starter. From 7/1/2014 to 6/30/2015, his stats are virtually identical value-wise to his 2014 stats. You've been ragging on Carter since at least two months into the season as if two months of data is significant. If you look at the last two months of Carter's performance, he's been better than last year. Either small sample data is sufficient and he's corrected whatever problem plagued him the first two weeks or a larger sample size is needed to evaluate performance and that larger sample size shows the first two weeks has no significantly impacted his performance over the last year. The typical in-season stats that are statistically significant shows he's striking out a little more than normal, but making up the value in walks. His performance from the year has been below average, but stats that are predictive suggest he should be as good as he was last year going forward with maybe a few more walks and strikeouts. If Singleton hits his potential he'll be better. Most likely Singleton will be better next year or the year after. Right now, odds are Carter is still better.
I've grown relatively OK with Carter (note: 1B wasn't among positions I listed as needing an upgrade). My issue is why bring up Singleton and not play him every day. If the answer is Carter/Gattis are better, then leave him in Fresno and let Villar, or Hoes, or whoever fill the 25th spot on the roster. If Singleton is here, IMO, he should be in the line-up everyday.
Singleton is a very talented guy. He also is very lazy and is one more puff puff pass from being suspended for 80 games. Is his talent worth the trouble? So far the answer to that is NO. Particularly when the minors are loaded with 1B prospects that have just as much ability as Singleton and don't carry the baggage. It's up to Singleton to work hard and prove himself to be more than a AAAA type player despite his talent. So far the jury is out and things look lukewarm for Singleton's career projections. (His swing is long and there are holes in it.) Party on Big John. Does Singleton remind long time fans of Eric Anthony?

It would make sense to get rid of Marwin, since they basically play the same positions, but Marwin has such a huge advantage defensively. Not to mention as seen today, we really don't want Singleton, Carter, & Gattis.
Marwin being able to play anywhere in the infield and play in the outfield gives him a roster spot over Singleton. Especially since the Stros are going to carry an extra pitcher. Basically who gets sent down will be either Singleton or Santana and Singleton is gone if it comes down to that. (IMHO)
This feels a little like we all drew a conclusion about Jon Singleton 1-2 years ago and, come hell or high water, we're going to stick to that conclusion... Has Singleton not worked hard? Are there whispers he's lazy? Is dope really still an issue? He was dealt what had to be a pretty significant blow this April when he didn't make the team - but he didn't seem to pout, quit or act the least bit entitled. He went to Fresno and, while not setting the league on fire, certainly played well (and did have stretches of being on fire, for sure).

Well,I guess it looks like Singleton just isn't as good as he was hyped up to be. Did you really expect him to get a hit last night against Kluber? Especially in a clutch spot? Tell me how many clutch hits has he gotten? Singleton is Eric Anthony a just above AAAA type player and I wonder what you see in him that I don't. Sure he hits the ball very hard/far. He just doesn't make enough contact to justify playing as much as he has. Eric Anthony brought Mike Hampton to the Stros. Hopefully this is an audition for the trade deadline and Luhnow can do as well.
The majority of prospects, even highly touted ones, don't work out, that's just a fact. There is nothing you can do to avoid missing on some prospects. We seem to be having good results with our recent blue chippers. Correa, Springer, McCullers, also Velasquez looking good. On the flipside Appel looks really bad and Santana hasn't done much. Right now Singleton looks like a guy that just isn't good enough to translate it to the majors. It isn't always about attitude or work ethic.
Would y'all think a Obie for Navarro deal with the Blue Jays would be fair? They need pitching help in the worst way.
Can't say I know much about Navarro defensively, and obviously that is very important I do think his bat would translate to MMP very well
