That's a lot of money. Although Lefties do age well, 7 years is crazy. Greinke will probably sign with SF or re-sign with LA if I had to guess.
This helps level the playing field for the Astros. The Bluejays are less of a force now. I am glad for Price as I feel pitchers often had a cash ceiling that was unfair. Overall think this is good for baseball.
The fact the Braves just raped the DBacks in this Miller deal should mean the Marlins won't accept anything less than 2 potential stars for Fernandez. Shelby is a #2, and the DBacks way overpaid with giving up Swanson, a top 50 prospect in Blair and a solid OF in Inciarte.
FWIW <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dbacks people saying the package would not have come close to getting them Fernandez. There were other reports that the Diamondbacks were closing in on Fernandez but they had offered the same deal to the Braves but the Marlins ALSO included Corbin.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">For <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Dodgers?src=hash">#Dodgers</a> to land Jose Fernandez from <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Marlins?src=hash">#Marlins</a> hearing it would take Urias, Seager, Pederson and two more. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WinterMeetings?src=hash">#WinterMeetings</a></p>— Joe Frisaro (@JoeFrisaro) <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeFrisaro/status/674419215416303616">December 9, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> I guess this is their way of saying "No one is going to offer us that aka we are not moving him and have no intentions to do so."
So, the D-Backs are this year's "all-in" team? The teams that have done this the last few years (Padres in 2015 being the most recent case) have not fared well. It took 2 seasons and many more moves for the Blue Jays to shake off the crud from their offseason spending spree of a few years ago.
Neither of those teams had the core of young talent and a MVP candidate that the D-backs already have in place... but they did need to shore up their rotation, which they most decidedly have. But yeah, it guarantees nothing... and they'll sell off everything sooner if it doesn't work out.
It was bold by the DBacks, but I still think they made a huge mistake. A guy like Miller is someone you can acquire from other places. Shelby's definitely overvalued even given the fact that he's 25 and brings 3 years of control. They could've made due with Gallardo and maybe a lower level pitcher. They better hope they make the postseason next year now which is going to be awfully tough given that division and the rest of the NL. Part of me thinks their offense was somewhat of a fluke last season, but we'll see this season if it is indeed a top 3 offense.

Damn.... Heyward got overpaid. Great defense, but there's less value in a corner OF. And he's not a great (or even good) middle of the lineup hitter. OPS <.800 last 3 seasons. Laughable money.
