I'm blaming the n00bs who all moved here from Cali and other parts of the country for work. I swear half of those that I have met are ****ing rude, clueless and they're all scared of our highways. They actually drive the speed limit.

I just learned about the "Brown Ocean Effect" yesterday. Pretty interesting.

While nobody should take any storm lightly... I will say that the SENSATIONALISM by the media/social media has gotten way out of hand.

Unfortunately, disasters drive local news ratings... so they are compelled/forced to milk it for everything that it could potentially be (and then some).

I might as well have been working in the yard all morning. We're in Pearland, on the west side of 288, and it's rained twice all morning, both times briefly (<20 minutes). Now the sun is trying to break through the clouds. What's this "tropical storm" everyone keeps talking about? Hope everyone else is staying safe.

Everything is overblown now. Everything. Media and social media echo off each other so it sounds like everything is this major event and then more people want involved.

It's exactly the same it's always been. They've been doing this forever.

Yeah, me too. Let's see if that will happen in North TX and Oklahoma.

Is that when everybody freaks out from the news coverage looses control of their bowels, and the ensuing light rain and mild wind washes it into the ocean?

I'm going in to work. Can still get some stuff done over the next 5 hours.

I think tomorrow the weather will be worse.

Of course but more time with friends and family never hurts unless you hate them. Chill out, relax, enjoy your life and don't give a **** about what other people are doing. If they're panicking or aren't prepared won't hurt you. Just flip on Netflix or think about how you're gonna celebrate when the Rockets win it all next year.

Sure... but back in the "newspaper" and "live radio" era, it wasn't a constant/endless stream of updated information (that really isn't updated... just recycled). People didn't have smartphones going off with every possible weather alert.

Media has the largest reach its ever had... so yes, similar sensationalism will go much further now-a-days than before, and that has to be accounted for.

Not exactly how sure it works but I think its when the storm gains energy from the moisture in the ground.

Local news is now scrambling for any sort of "devastation"... is there really nothing else going on in Houston today? Criminals could really get away with stuff and nobody would know.

And just like every good alternative band, Bill would rather party in Austin than Houston
