Funny. Kevin Johnson has had a better career defensively for the Texans than Clowney has. Biggest knock on Kevin coming out of college? His "frail frame".

    Our defense flat out.

Has been better with him out.

    It's weird

If we're going to lay blame on a player being out making the defense better, Rahim Moore deserves it far more than Clowney.

Coincidence. Not sure he should start over Mercilus though

OL played really well last night in pass pro. Even Su'a Filo did alright against Geno Atkins.

OL really has not been bad. Don't really have playmakers though, hence the ten points

Pass pro has been good, it's the run blocking that has sucked. Clowney has been good when he played but it hasn't translated to good team D. Probably just a bad coincidence.

They "should" have scored a TD on that first FG drive. Probably the most disappointing sequence of the night, given the way the offense was finally executing.... that idiotic hurry up that BOB/Godsey employs after every "decent" gain (its usually a running play, and its usually a net negative) needs to go away.

the bootleg is such a beautiful play some idiot defender always screws and someone is always open. Saw more bootlegs yesterday than all of 2014.

Clowney is talented, staff just needs to figure out how to get the best out of him and merciless together.

It's hard when they are both most effective as edge rushers. Best bet is to move Watt, Mercilus and Clowney around on the line (which they were doing) and occasionally take Watt out to keep him fresh for the 4th quarter.

Actually think Clowney has been more effective against the run and sealing the edge than pass rushing so far. Difficult to tell since he has been in and out so much. But I like moving these guys around and making offenses account for them.

He got burned quite a few times early in the season by biting on the option too hard and since then he's been a little tentative. He hasn't gotten beaten with the option since then, but he also hasn't really had any sacks since he's taking longer to get to the area of the QB.

He's still a young player and I think things will fall into place for him sooner rather than later once he gets a bit more experience.

the frail frame argument for skilled positions is simply not a good one.
