It's whatever. Seriously. Whatever contributions the 2015 draft class provides this year is gravy. I'm infinitely more interested in seeing what they do in 2016 and beyond.
Very small samples, especially for Cameron. Bregman has been decent enough in Quad Cities. Tucker is showing a good BB-rate paired without striking out that much.
I would say first year stats prove nothing. But just noting that no one is blowing it out of the water at the moment. I think Bregman will shoot up quickly. I am skeptical on both high-school bats.
A lot of first round picks are struggling from what I can tell. It could just be a fluke or it could be that people were right and this was a weak draft. Time will tell.
It's an adjustment from a lifestyle standpoint to a competition standpoint to an environment standpoint. Give them an offseason to adjust.
Let's take a quick look at the DSL teams. Yes, I know they're at the lowest rung on the minor league ladder and most of them will probably never make it to Class A, but there are some kids posting intriguing numbers. First up, the Blue team. Cristopher Luciano is a little old, but he's slashing .305/.444/.445 with a homer and 22 RBI in 37 games with the Blue team. Andy PiƱeda is 19-28 on stolen base attempts and is hitting .288/.399/.406 with a homer, 18 RBI, 23 walks and 19 strikouts. Hector Perez: 7 starts, 1-0, 2.12 ERA, 29.2 IP, 20 H, 10 R (7 earned), 6 BB, 32 K, 0.96 WHIP, .185 average against Perez is a 19-year-old Dominican in his first season. Michel Martinez is a 21-year-old Cuban defector: 8 appearances (6 starts), 3-2, 0.96 ERA, 28 IP, 27 H, 11 R (3 earned), 8 BB, 26 K, 1.25 WHIP, .257 average against Yoanys Quiala is a 21-year-old Cuban defector who the Astros signed in May: 5 appearances, 3.00 ERA, 15 IP, 14 H (1 homer allowed), 5 ER, 4 BB, 13 K Now, on to the Orange team. Miguelangel Sierra is having a fine debut season, as he is slashing .295/.403/.473 with 3 homers and 12 RBI. His 3rd homer was a pinch-hit 2-run shot that came yesterday. He signed for $1 million out of Venezuela in the previous July 2 signing period. Juan Robles, a 17-year-old Mexican: 7 starts, 1-0, 0.59 ERA, 30.1 IP, 18 H, 6 R (2 earned), 9 BB, 30 K, 0.90 WHIP, .168 average against Jose Ramos, an 18-year-old from Panama: 8 appearances (4 starts), 1-1, 2.55 ERA, 35.1 IP, 26 H, 14 R (10 earned), 9 BB, 30 K, .200 average against Franklin Perez also signed for $1 million out of Venezuela in last year's IFA period. 7 starts, 0-2, 5.48 ERA, 21.1 IP, 25 H (1 homer allowed), 18 R (13 earned), 7 BB, 26 K, 1.52 WHIP, .284 average against
Seems like his problem is just leaving everything right over the plate. Arm Speed/Slot looked the same to me.
The fact that 33rd round picks Mike Hauschild and Tyler White are enjoying success at AAA is a success in itself. Even if those guys never produce at the MLB level, they've both been terrific late-round draft picks by the front office.
