Miguelangel Sierra, who signed for $1 million last year, hit his 2nd home run for the DSL Orange team. He's off to a fine start to his professional career and could come stateside later this summer.
Brett Maverick Phillips Funny story. My wife and I are thinking about having another baby, and she is talking boy names in the car. Somehow, I end up talking about Brett Phillips and how he shares the name with the main character in the movie Maverick (Bret Maverick played by Mel Gibson), which came out shortly before he was born. Always wondered if his parents named him after the character (the movie was also based on an old TV show), or if it was purely coincidence. All that to say, if we have a boy, his middle name will be Maverick. lol
Fisher is the best prospect out of the three. He has a chance (albeit, slight) to be an All-Star caliber player.
Based on what? I'm a fan, no doubt, but he doesn't have the results of Reed, regardless of how many more tools he has, in college or the pros. Go ahead and Google the GS winners. It's a nice list.
Fisher has speed, arm, potential plus hit tool, average raw power, etc. He really is just a well rounded player. Reed can pretty much just hit the crap out of the ball and in all actuality his numbers against good pitching prospects are pretty terrible.
I'm hoping all 3 rise to the top, but I think Reed's bat plays more than Fisher's projected tools. I want to see them all in AA, though.
My guess is MLBFarm. Here is Reed's page and his stats vs MLB top 20 prospects are worse compared to his overall numbers.
So, they're only terrible compared to his own numbers against non top 20 prospects, which are elite? And even then, they ain't that bad. I'll take that.
I would say based on the fact that he was drafted before Reed, and because the "experts" rate him higher, at least Mlb.com, Fangraphs, and minorleagueball. You say he does not have the results of Reed, but is that really the case? Reed's wRC+ is 164, Fisher's is 154. Reed OPS is 971, Fisher's is 944. And Reed is doing that with a much better BABIP, which may indicate more luck than Fisher is experiencing. They both have solid BB and K % rates. Reed hits more homers, but Fisher provides a speed and defense aspect that Reed does not. I am glad that both are in the Astros' system, but if I could only choose one, it would definitely be Fisher
What's his first name going to be? Duncan? Come on man, a Rockets fan can not have a boy with that middle name.
Actually, at one point I said Utah Maverick (I was thinking of states as a name and Utah struck me because of Johnny Utah in Point Break). I then face palmed myself when I realized what those 2 teams represent. I've learned to deal with the fact that we have a Maverick & D Fisher as top prospects and Dallas as our staff ace. Brentley.
It's Brett and DJ as far as I'm concerned. The Dallas thing is what it is, I'd call him DK but that nickname's retired.
