Brett Phillips just smacked his 13th homer of the year for Lancaster. That home run tied the game at 11 in the 7th inning.
Dan Straily @ Sacramento: 7 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K Fresno scored 4 runs off of a rehabbing Matt Cain. They're up 6-3 in the 9th.
Big nights for a few of the 2nd tier guys. Dan Strailly went 7 innings of 2 hit, 2 walk, 0 run baseball with 7 Ks. Tony Kemp is 2-4 with a double and 3 steals. His batting average across AA and AAA is a about 360, and his OBP is around .450. The only thing you could really ask of him is that he cuts down on his baserunning outs (15-23 in AA in steals), but he's now 4-5 in AAA. L.J. Hoes is 3-4 and is hitting a pretty slick .348... there's just no room for him in Houston. Fresno at one point had Hoes, Tucker, and Santana all in the outfield.
Alright, 3 good starts in a row for Appel. 14 K's in 16 innings, with a 0.98 WHIP. He threw 101 pitches last night which is a season high. That's progress, gotta keep this going.
Straily has really turned his season around. Possibly our next man up. I did as soon as I saw the tweet. We have a tendency to over analyze.

Tidbit from McDaniel that I found interesting. Still seems to have Appel over Phillips in his mind. Kiley McDaniel: Appel, Moran, Phillips, Fisher are the top guys still in the minors from my preseason list and Moran has been hurt, so one or both of those guys may jump him. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-prospects-chat-61615/
Reed also has doubled and walked, just on a tear right now as is Maverick. In what order do you rate: 1. Maverick 2. AJ 3. Fish ????
Given that Reed is a Golden Spikes winner and how those have fared as major leaguers, I'd put him slightly ahead of Phillips. Fisher isn't too far behind, but those 2 are definitely in front. I just want to see what they do in Corpus before I get too excited, though.
For the 2nd straight night, Fresno is getting the better of a rehabbing Giants starting pitcher. Tony Kemp just hit an inside-the-park homer to put them up 3-1 in the 5th.
