Mark Appel got roughed up tonight in Midland: 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R (5 earned) 2 BB The Hooks lead 8-6 in the 6th.
Is Correa's "transition period" going to be better than what we will get out of Villar and Gonzalez? Would think so.
Ben DuBose (aka The Cat) had JJ Cooper of Baseball America on his Red & Orange Report podcast yesterday, and he had some interesting comments regarding Carlos Correa possibly seeing time with the Astros this season. That part begins at 1:03:15. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Could Correa join <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> before Lowrie returns? <a href="https://twitter.com/jjcoop36">@jjcoop36</a> of <a href="https://twitter.com/BaseballAmerica">@BaseballAmerica</a>: "It would not shock me in any way." <a href="https://t.co/xq17S6iosA">https://t.co/xq17S6iosA</a></p>— Ben DuBose (@BenDuBose) <a href="https://twitter.com/BenDuBose/status/593796913251618816">April 30, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Luhnow said as much to Matt Thomas on 790 the other day. I think he's come to the realization that Correa isn't going to let him wait until 2016.
Baseball Prospectus has a piece from an agent right now talking about finding "gem" prospects who were drafted in the 30th+ rounds. The Astros' Tyler White makes an appearance: Speaking of which, why does White only have 30 PAs in AA right now? Is he injured?
Gregor at 1B too, I guess. Just seems like you could find ABs somehow, even if it meant shuffling guys around from RF/1B/DH on different days.
Sooooo...... Carlos Correa is not in the Corpus Christi lineup tonight. Probably a scheduled off day. Sorry, lack of sleep makes me easily excitable. EDIT: False alarm.
Did Moran get hurt? Correa went 1-3 with a walk and lowered his average. It's time to trade him for more prospects.

In 19.1 scoreless innings in April, Chris Devenski allowed 8 hits, walked 4, and struck out 16 for Corpus Christi.
Chan Moon being called up to Corpus. Does this mean there will be an impending SS vacancy for Moon to fill? <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Congratulations to <a href="https://twitter.com/cjmoon91">@cjmoon91</a> on his promotion to AA Corpus Christi! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/JetHawks?src=hash">#JetHawks</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Mooooooooooon?src=hash">#Mooooooooooon</a></p>— Lancaster JetHawks (@JetHawks) <a href="https://twitter.com/JetHawks/status/594229750257684480">May 1, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet for this week had several familiar names on the list. Correa, McCullers, Tucker and Philips. My favorite thing is that in Tucker's blurb it says when in truth all four are part of that 2012 draft class.
At what point do they consider calling up Tucker. Singleton always seemed tabbed to be the first man up, but Tucker is outperforming him. Grossman despite his good spring, is once again not producing. Sending him down, and moving Lowrie to the 60 day DL would open up the spot.
On a somewhat related CC Hooks note, the view from Whataburger Fiekd will soon be changing, thanks to a new $1 billion dollar new bridge they got state approval on. http://www.kiiitv.com/story/28946603/new-harbor-bridge-to-be-longest-cable-stayed-bridge-in-nation
It's extremely unlikely that they would call up Tucker to replace Grossman. First off Grossman's number are still in the small sample size domain, particularly as he's playing part time. Not saying he'll hit like an all-star eventually but we can't really comment too much on 39 plate appearances. Second, Grossman is mainly there for positional flexibility as he can cover all three OF spots. Tucker is realistically limited to LF/1B/DH and if Gattis ever starts taking reps in LF then Tucker would basically never play. Third, Tucker isn't on the 40-man and someone would have to be dropped/disabled to add him. I just don't think the current situation is conducive to calling up Tucker; even if he got called up he wouldn't play regularly. That's far more important than getting a few pinch hit AB's or 1 start a week.
