Lol I know I was just pointing it out as something interesting. I loved the Eshelman pick and still do.
I don't know much about Carlos Machado, but he's a 17-year-old Venezuelan OF who is currently slashing .340/.405/.373 in 48 games for the DSL Orange team. Still extremely early, but it's a pretty good start to his career.
Yeah, I figured. Couldn't resist taking a little jab at people with apparently legitimate-in-their-mind complaints about just-drafted players.
If Bregman homers in his next plate appearance, he'll complete the cycle in order. He singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, and hit that 2-run triple in the 6th.
I'll be honest, I miss the days when I could click on this thread and see an AJ Reed dong every night.
Yeah..... Scouts do not like admitting when they are wrong. Reed can play and very well could become a middle of the order all star first baseman. What we read may say he is only top 100.... but those same experts still claimed that Buxton was a better prospect than Correa. Anyone that followed closely knew that was hog wash.
How big would the balls on Luhnow be if on Aug. 31st (or earlier), he cuts Carter and calls up Reed? Honestly, the ONLY reason to keep Carter right now is if you honestly believe somebody would give up anything of value for him in the off-season... and does that outweigh a possible month+ of decent 1B AB's from Reed/White/Whoever? With Lowrie possibly out now again... I don't see how they could not re-consider their first base options... Valbuena/Margo going to be playing a lot of 3B, which unfortunately is going to leave a void at 1B again for Carter to fill by default.
It would take a 40 man spot but honestly there is fat at the bottom of the 40 man. If the Astros are willing to trade real prospects for Kazmir, then they should have no problem burning a 40 man spot. The only conclusion I can reach is that Luhnow doesn't believe Reed or White are ready yet.
