Bobby Portis would've been a great stretch 4 with the 18th pick. - 6'11 and Mobile - Shoots 3's - Blocks Shots - Back to the Basket Sam Dekker will be buried behind Trevor and Corey this season but let's see how he develops. Not to say Portis wouldn't be buried behind D-Mo, Smith, Jones, and even Capela as well. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/j1QaJKxxkzc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Great idea to make a thread like this !! Besides seeing Lin. Would like one for grant also. But u know we shoot too many 3s, our center is a post up player, and harden likes to drive, to draft a PF that can strech the floor doesn't make sense for us. Harell is the best fit
Portis is a ridiculous talent, I'd take him over several PFs in the first round however when it comes to being buried Dekker has way more chance to get PT than Portis. You only have Brewer (who can get pt at sg) and Ariza as Sfs, while at PF you have Josh Smith, DMo and Tjones. Considering the Rox also managed to get their hands on Harell I think Dekker+Harell is the right choice.
Game 2 results were not that pretty. 1-10, 5 pts, 6 boards, 3 turnovers That said, I did think there's no way DM passes on him if he was still there. Guess we were wrong. Hopefully the triple dekker turns into something nice.
I don't pay much attention to SL because it's proven again and again that it's meaningless as indication of future perfomances. I liked Portis pre draft and now it's a shame tha the has to wear this awful Bulls jersey. However the Bulls have this frontcourt depth Pau/Noah Mirotic/Taj/Portis So maybe he becomes available soon for a wing
I watched him play in person today at Summer League. He didn't look good at all. I know it's just one game, but to say he did not play well would be a pretty serious understatement. In his defense though, the whole team looked bad, but he was also a big part of the reason why. I'm sure he will get better, but man, it was ugly out there today.
I watched almost every game during Portis' career at Arkansas (wearing a razorback basketball shirt as I type this). Too lazy to give a lengthy analysis at the moment..but the comparison to T Jones is fairly accurate
I feel like Jones has always had to line up his shot from deep, he never seemed as comfortable shooting the 3 ball as Portis does. This guy, Portis, looks like he's much more skilled offensively than Jones. Jones never developed his game, still continues to rely on that athleticism. I'd much rather have Portis than jones any day.
and I repeat again that Portis will end up growing even more and will be able to play center. Can Jones play center? Easy to write off a prospect when he hasn't even played an nba game just because he reminds you of someone who has completely failed in three years to grow his game and his skills.
Wow, you guys weren't joking about the TJ comparison. Near identical shooting motion! Though it appears that Portis is much more fluid with his shot.
Don't see the comparison between Portis and Terrence. Portis appears to me to have an entirely different mentality than Terrence with his willingness to toss the 3 up. He also doesn't twist/corkscrew his core when he lifts off. And his release, while slowed, is much faster and automatic than Terrence's because he's ready to shoot and not hesitant on the catch. You guys that are wishing for Portis over Dekker may be in for a surprise. I suspect we are going to be playing Dekker at the 4 a lot in our small ball lineup. If Dekker doesn't get hurt or traded he's going be in our rotation at sine point this season.
