I was shocked they didn't give a red card. Brazil is already missing a lot of important players. I think Germany has a good chance. I was also shocked that nobody was send of in the Costa Rica - Netherlands game. it was amazing how hard al the tackles on Robben were. Júnior Díaz should have been send off. I see in both the dutch and the Barzil game a reluctance to give a yellow card, which lead to really hard tackles on the best offensive players.
Thanks, man. It is honestly difficult to evaluate the "Cruel One" when he has not played a single minute in a regular WC game. One can say he is truly a great sprecialist. I have watched Jasper Cillessen (and Daley Blind) in two Euro League games against Red Bull Salzburg and he did not do great as Ajax was totally outdone by counterattacks. Goal of the round was a spectacular Beckham like lob from almost half line by the Spaniard Jonathan Soriano(who scored like 30 goals that season, internationally only behind C7 and Suarez) Cillessen did not stand a chance.
Arno, in 2008 Russia beat us in extra time. So no penalties needed to kick our butts. After Ruud scored I was sure we'd win it, but alas...We looked SO SLOW in that match it was unbelievable. I'm liking how fit we are right now - let's see how the 120 minutes impact us on Wednesday. The funny thing is that Cillessen isn't good with his feet either really. LVG said before the World Cup that his ideal keeper is Vermeer. Who's he? Cillessen's backup at Ajax! Imagine hearing that from your coach and then getting subbed for penalties as well. Ha.
You are right, I made the list trying to remember. And for some reason I remembered it wrong... That was the match Hiddink showed how important a great coach is. You are right, about Cillessen. Funny fact about Vermeer was that he was also the backup to the dutch team when Stekelenburg was the goalkeeper (and during that time he was also the backup to Stekelenburg with Ajax).
Your'e watching this in super slo-mo. He's already physically on the ground when the video starts - there's literally nothing he can do to arrest his own momentum or move his leg at that point, and the guy flips the ball up and over. Really difficult to gauge intent and say that he was "going for the leg" when all you see is the last fraction of a second.
Well we saw it in real time and there it is easy to determine it was a red card. Not only because of the severity. But mainly because of the situation
One could make the case this was a play on the ball as the ball is in sight on this play (nevertheless the goalie made contact so it is an obvious foul). Compare this play with the one Neymar was injured where the ball was long gone. Hey, this is the soccer garm, where only Brazilians are known to commit hard fouls and diving is a Brazilian specialty.
Camilo Zuniga will not be subsequently punished by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee. Official statement is out. T The committee is remorseful about Neymar's injury "According to article 77 a subsequent penalty would have been possible in special cases" This one did not fall into that category.
I did not expect that. However, as Thiago Silva stated, he does not believe Zuniga to be a dirty player. IMO, he probably is not a dirty player, but he did play dirty in this particular game, probably caught into the emotional aspect of the game (others may argue that some brasilian players also played on the edge of clean/dirty play). To me, this set a dangerous precedence in that other players similarly injured can file their appeal based on this FIFA decision. Superstar players like Neymar and James Rodriguez deserve extra protection from the refs as they are defended differently than any other playerss. They carry not a number but a bulls eye target in the backs of their shirts.
Don't be crazy. That Julio Cesar penalty did not warrant a red card. As SamFisher mentioned, it's easy to jump to conclusions during slo-mo. But Cesar was obviously looking to clear the ball with his leg after Bacca's dribble. And even then, David Luiz was already behind both of them to clear the ball. It was an easy yellow, but to give a red card for that would have been ridiculous.
FIFA Veteran Mexican-born referee Marco Rodriguez will be the man with the tough decisions for match 61, in his third World Cu. Way to go, Marco!
Wait are you saying that the people in this thread are only complaining about the Brazilians? Are the people in this thread being mean to the little Brazilians? . You missed the part were many of us were really upset about the foul on Hulk? (which was worse than the Neymar foul). Or the hard fouls in any other game. You also missed the complaining about how Robben/Ronaldo is flopping. This was a clear red card, since it would obviously be a goal if Cesar didn’t make the foul. I wanted to look at a replay since I seem te remeber that Luiz was behind them after the foul. Thank you. About the foul on Neymar, Hulk , Robben and many other. I think the refs during this world cup have been to soft on the hard fouls ont technical players. The most clearest examples are the Brazil Colombia game were both teams just got out of hand with fouling, and Also the way Robben was handled in the Costa Rica game, every time he got passed a player he was fouled. Because the refs have been so soft, injuries will occur.
Dude, everyone knows it should have been a red. The announcers knew on the feed I was watching, the analysts on two different networks knew it should have been a red, watching it live it looked like a red, etc. JC got there late, after the ball had been controlled, and took him out.
This is sad stuff: http://soccer.fusion.net/2014/07/06/argentine-fans-mock-neymars-injury-with-chant-and-plastic-spine/ Chant Spoiler ♪olé olé olé olé olé olá... aquí tenemos la columna de neymar... ♫ [/i] (here we have Néymar's spine) Are these people the World Cup version of the Philly fans who cheered for Irvin's injury? That's #($&ed up.
What, are you kidding? I think I found one or two of "these people" in this thread, albeit writing in what passes for English for many posters on this forum. "Neymar is a flopper, so, you know, he kinda got what was coming to him."
