started the shining. pretty glued. i made the mistake of watching the PART of the movie while reading. terrible decision.
After 10 -12 years, I decided to read the Dark Tower series again. At present, I'm at the end of " The Gunslinger".(which I last read 20 years ago)
Finished Kill Decision by Suarez. I enjoyed it. Very plausible, although my PhD buddy thinks it doesn't make sense due to the power constraints, even though drones can be powered by lawnmower engines. I'm currently reading the Gentlemen Bastards series. It's light on magic and a good mix of Joe Abercrombie and Rothfuss.
Currently halfway through in A Clash of Kings by GRRM. As great as the show is, the book is so much better. Can't wait to read the rest of the books!
Me too. Started reading it yesterday. Also started reading The Strain. Figured I'd see if I like it before the show comes out.
Which book can I read that's going to come out with a blockbuster movie. I want to if my mind can picture the same hit.
Currently reading Siddhartha by Herman Hesse and Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. Havent read enough of either to form much of an opinion. Over the last month, I have read Ender's Game, Flowers for Algernon, Gone Girl, and Fight Club. I enjoyed all of them. If I had to rank, I would go with: Gone Girl Ender's Game Fight Club Flower's for Algernon I think Im going to be going with The Martian by Andy Weir next, followed with The Game of Thrones, fml.
Question for everyone... I get a lot of book recommendations from Reddit. On there, people talk about emotional books that make them cry, weep, sob, etc... Many people on there said that Flowers for Algernon is a book that requires a kleenex box bc it'll have you crying like a baby. I decided to give it a shot and, even though it's kind of sad, it's nowhere near the point where I'd be balling my eyes out. In fact, I dont think any book can remotely get me to the point where Im that sad. Am I the only one like that? It's not like Im emotionally disconnected. With real life events, I can show emotion. I just wonder how people, who literally sob from a book...how can they handle real life events? Someone fill me in on this...do books make you cry? And if so, are you emotionally unstable in the real world? Honest question.
Just finished my first Jack Reacher novel, "Killing Floor" by Lee Child. I can see why he is a popular author. He keeps the action moving, has a protagonist that is straightforward and tough....like a Clint Eastwood type. It had a good mystery that he slowly revealed while packing the story with action scenes he describes well. Good conclusion too. Its never going to be confused with Pulitzer prize winning writing, but I'm certain I'll visit the world of Jack Reacher again soon. Ironically, now I AM taking on a Pulitizer Prize winner... "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara a novel surrounding the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War.
For some reason, been on a Stephen King kick lately. Joyland (very good) The Shining (reread as I wanted to read the sequel) Doctor Sleep (halfway through. Good but not nearly as good as the Shining)
