No matter how good a QB plays or what skills he shows in college, if they don't have the prototypical QB frame, it's going to knock them down a notch. That's why Wilson was a 3rd round pick. It doesn't mean he can't be a good NFL QB, but it going to affect his draft stock. At least a little. His knack for having off field issues won't help either.
how many legit pro-drop passers are out there, Aaron Murray wasnt even better than Colt McCoy or Kellen Moore in college, and he will probably suffer there same fate in the NFL, i thought Ryan Mallet for sure was gonna be a big time starter in the NFL( where is he now)... like i said before, many at the high school level are not producing the classic drop back qb's anymore.( watch any high school game). Teddy Bridgewater will most likely go number 2 in this upcoming draft, and Jamies Winston will go first OVERALL in 2015.. you have to come to grips that the Manning, Brees, and Brady will be the last of their kind. I think a lot of GM's see that with a mobile qb( that can throw) you dont really need to beef up or waste draft picks on your o-line( something that is a must for drop back passers)
Texans have always struggled againist mobile qb's i dont think VY ever lost to us( and he was terrible)
The best QBs in the NFL are Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers. Really the only scrambler type of that bunch is Rodgers, but he doesn't do a lot of designed runs. Stafford, Bradford, Luck, Tannehill are not too dissimilar and LOL at your comment that you don't need a good o-line if you have a scrambler. Tell that to Terrell Pryor on Sunday! Normally I would question this, but then again it is Jacksonville. They need someone exciting to help remove the tarps in that stadium. I would love to have the chance to draft Mariota, but I have a feeling we'll address other needs first, and end up with a game manager like McCarron.
This. Football is a game won at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Even with the rule changes.
But even Rodgers is more of a pocket passer than anything else...he's mobile, but he's not a scrambling QB. Im sure he'd much prefer to have a nice pocket so that he can just step into his throws and pick a defense apart. The NFL is completely filled with pocket passers...from the ones you mentioned to Rivers, Cutler, Flacco, Eli, Matt Ryan, Romo, Big Ben, etc... Really, all these guys are much more known for their arms than anything else they bring to the table. The pocket passer will always win out in the end.
Stafford has a 4-25 record againist teams with winning records in his career, Bradford has the lowest yards per attempt in the HISTORY of the NFL, and Tannehill is nothing more than a game-manager( who is also extremely athletic, so he isnt really a true drop back passer), Andrew Luck has more in common with Alex Smith than he does with Peyton Manning, Peyton is a statue in the pocket, Luck is athletic and has Cam Newton measurables... the Colts have surrounded Luck with a great defense and special teams, do i think Luck will be on Peyton's level.... NO you forgot to mention Matt Ryan who when not surrounded by elite talent, cant elevate his teammates, very easy to gameplan for now. He isnt Brady, or Manning As for Terrelle Pryor yea, he played his first road game in arrowhead, when his starting center went out with an injury, so he had to improvise by himself, not to mention in that game, the crowd set a record for the loudest crowd noise in the WORLD. Pryor is only in his 5 start, give him time, he will be allright... and like i said true drop back passers wont be in the NFL 10 years from now
Cutler has had a medicore career, Flacco is average, Eli is david tyree catch, and a wes welker drop away from being Tim Couch, Romo has never won anything of substance( and never will), Big Ben has led the Steelers to a mighty 1-4 record this year after missing the playoffs last year, Rivers seems to be playing better this year, but he hasnt won anything either. The new age qb's are here to stay

So are you saying that Kaepernick and Pryor will win with poor defenses? What is so good about the "new age" QB that trumps pocket passers?
Weird point. That's like me saying that the Texans should be 4-2. There are teams with much worse defenses, and very average offensive lines, that are much stronger as a team compared to the Raiders due to the fact that they have better pocket passing QBs at the helm.
Mobile/athletic quarterbacks do not have to be scramblers. They can be the best pocket passers in the world, but when the pocket collapses they are able to escape and extend plays. Think Andrew Luck and Ben Roethlisberger in his prime. That's why this class of QBs is so exciting; they're all very athletic but they only scramble when they must. They look to pass first, and they're very good at it.
Yeah, this. Luck isn't known as a scrambler, but he's as fast as Cam and faster than tebow. Not only this but he's strong in the pocket. This comes in handy when the pocket collapses and he has to make something happen or run for a few yards. And where are these projected 40s from? I have a hard time believing Manziel and Mariota are slower than a 4.5.
