They had the Astros picking him number one based on need and how quickly he was suppose to make it to the majors. It was more off a tossup as to who was the most talented between Bryant and Appel. Taking Bryant last year and then Aiken this year will prove to have been a much better decision. Especially since last draft was said to be deep with college pitching. I hope they take Alex Jackson.
It's 1-2 years at the earliest to tell what will have been the better decision. Fine with Aiken or Jackson (if they move him from catcher)
Actually there was no consensus no 1 pick last year, at least according to national pundits. Perfect Game and Baseball America had Gray no 1 in their final draft rankings. Both law and (I believe) McDaniel had Appel at 1 in their final rankings.

I've personally been on the Rodon bandwagon for over the past year, but I just recently changed my allegiance to Brady Aiken. But although I now slightly prefer Aiken, I would be content with either Rodon or Jackson. I think all 3 are going to end up being real good big leaguers.
Apparently Luhnow said, while being interviewed during the broadcast a few days ago, that they wouldn't hesitate to take a position player if they felt comfortable with the arms in the system (hearing that from a friend...I didn't hear that interview)? I'll still go out on a limb and say they go Jackson. I still don't believe Luhnow will suddenly take on the risk of a high school arm till I see it.
