    Of course not.

T, you do an amazing job condensing the goings on in the minors into a daily rundown. It's incredibly entertaining and informative, and I'm impressed you have the time and energy to do it day-in-day-out. Kudos, seriously.

This is the internet though, and particularly a site full of grown(ish, me included) males who like sports. **** will be talked, feathers will get ruffled, your grandma's china might get smashed, who knows? It's all cool, we're all here for fun and diversion, don't take things personally.

Right. Learn it, know it, live it.

    Fair enough!

For me, a lot of the fun I get from reading on the minors and listening to minor league games is envisioning what a guy could become down the road. I'm rather big on projection, and I admit that do get too caught up in it at times.

That's kind of why I take umbrage whenever you chastise someone, or me, for doing that. But it's all good; sometimes we just gotta take a step back and focus on what a prospect is doing at present.

I'm a grown man, and my dropping your name earlier in the thread was very petty on my part. So, I would like to offer my apologies.

    Hatchet buried?

One of the greatest lines ever uttered in any movie ever! (My dad's absolute favorite, too.)

    Well done, sir!

The under armor high school all-American game is today at 1:30pm televised on Mlbnetwork. It's the second and last of the big summer HS all-American games and in addition to top 2014 talent it will also have two top 2015 players and two 2014 July 2 International prospects.

Here's player notes from baseball prospectus http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=21618

To borrow a quote from an earlier thread this summer, "this is why we can't have good things.'

    amiright?

Keep on, keeping on, tilii. Would definitely be interested in an Astros fan meet-up during an Corpus Christi/Frisco game here in North Texas. Looks like they'll be here Tuesday-Friday (8/27-30) if anyone is interested?!

Can somebody please tell me if I'm allowed to continue masturbating over prospects or not?

Tyler Kolek was sitting 93-97mph. Not very polished though. I think Rodon is still the clear #1.

Daz Cameron needs to develop more power and strength and not as athletic as I thought . Jacob Gatewood looks good, but it is Rodon right now specially if he dominates his junior season. If Kolek develops his big time pontential he can maybe be consider as well. Dylan Cease is also big time.

Marlins have to be frustrated they can't make no ground on :)the Astros lol. 5.5 in front of the Marlins. Barring a choke job Carlos Rodon will become an Astro.

I've been thinking about this, but isn't this one of the of the most positive ways to tank - by having a horrendous and embarrassing bullpen? We can at least say in the offseason that our play as a team we actually improved greatly from last season, and if we could just hold on to our leads, we would have won a ton more games. So we still get the benefit from obtaining the #1 pick and the pool money that accompanies it, but we can legitimately say that we are better than our record showed. Our young pitching has been good, and I think the results have been better than I'd expected, so that's good. We also have a few intriguing arms in the minors that could definitely play a role in our rotation next year.

On offense, sure we strike out a lot, but there have definitely been bright spots - mainly Castro. Dominguez and Carter have also shown that although they will strike out a lot, they can and will hit for power. Grossman has been playing very well since his second call-up. Hoes has been a pleasant surprise since the trade, and I'd be comfortable with him at the 2 hole to start next year. Villar has shown flashes. Now add Springer and possibly Singleton to the lineup, and the lineup should be good enough to score enough runs to keep us in games.

So that leaves us with our bullpen. We can add a helpful piece or two via free agency (i.e. Veras), or use a few of minor league arms. If our bullpen can at least perform average next year, that in it of itself will better our record.

Maybe I'm just looking for a little silver lining during this turnaround, but perhaps sustained success is not as far out as we might think?

I'd say the "success" of a team in the Astros situation is predicated on how it's young core players and prospects do rather than the mlb team's w/l record. That said I'd rather them not embarrass themselves with a historically bad record. I'd love for them to win enough to avoid 100 losses and help me win my Vegas over bet, while losing enough to still get the #1 pick. Say 63-99. But that's secondary to how well Castro, Cosart, Correa, Springer, Singleton, Appel, etc do.

I think and hope this is the last year they'll be competing for 1.1 picks. I might be optimistic but if everything goes well I think they could win 70+ next year and compete in 2015.

I think we are saying the same thing here. The development and play of our young core will lead to the mlb team's improved w/l record.

And I agree that this year should be the last year we'll be competing for the 1.1. I was actually saying that the future looks bright, and that hopefully we see marked improvement on our mlb team next year. I have been on board with the rebuild from day one and an a firm believer in Luhnow and company, but if we are talking about 1.1 again during the 2014 season, that means things aren't going according to plan, and justified criticism will be prevalent.

63-99 won't be bad enough for Rodon. Tank on for Rodon! The first transcendant prospect in the three years that we've been drafting first. Pretty soon they won't even call it the first slot. It'll just be the Astros Slot; they'll rename it after us. BRB gotta go take an Astros.

In baseball this kind of prospect like Rodon come around every 8 to 10 years.
