That is a lot for a guy that is a 1B without elite bat speed. Here's hoping Singleton will be better.
I guess I'm going to be the one to say that Crane was never really interested in Abreu, and that I believe this was a PR move. Everyone is beginning to distrust you on a few fronts and get the idea that maybe you're cheap, so let's go out and throw almost enough money at someone like this. I'm just saying. I don't think there was ever any intention to sign this guy. I'm not necessarily calling him cheap, I just think that he may be a bit shady. Maybe he wants to win, but I think he thinks the fan base is at least mildly r****ded.
That's a pretty under the radar PR move if it was one... pretty sure most season ticket holders and average to above average Astros fans have no clue that they're even trying to get him. Hell, pretty sure everybody in here couldn't identify this guy's face in a lineup. Again, doubt it was simply a PR move.
Apparently it was a blind bidding a week and a half ago. I doubt it was a PR bid to come up this short in a blind bidding process.
Some of you are already more annoying than the "Uncle Drayton" imbeciles from the late-90s - mid-00s.
I'm just skeptical is all. It probably wasn't a PR move, but I think I'll be skeptical until I see real proof. I like what we're building in the minor leagues, though.
Do you think the Red Sox were doing the same thing? They bid high too..but it was still lower than what the Astros bid. What would be the point of gambling that he takes your $55 million bid, if you don't intend to pay it? That's a pretty risky gamble with a helluva lot of money.
What PR does he get? 90% of the fans will never hear about this unless the Astros actually won the bidding.
