Make. This. Happen. If we add Abreu, another bat, and bullpen help + maybe a decent SP... 70+ wins will be within reach. Maybe MORE!!! LEEEHGOOO
Oh hell yes. Him and Singleton can rotate between 1B and DH. Do not think Singleton should go back to OF.
Wow so we are one of his last options? A few days ago we didn't even know that we were in on this guy!
This blurb is on Rotoworld: MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that free agent Cuban slugger Jose Abreu has narrowed his list of potential destinations to the Astros, Red Sox and White Sox. The Rangers were thought to be among the favorites for Abreu when he first defected from Cuba, but the lofty asking price may have scared them away. ESPN's Buster Olney reported Wednesday evening that the bidding for Abreu could climb near $70 million. The 26-year-old first baseman hit .382/.535/.735 with 13 homers, 37 runs scored, 36 RBI and 37 walks in 42 games last season in Cuba's Serie Nacional. Also, somebody made a great suggestion on mlbtr: Sign Abreu, trade/package Singleton to the Rays for Price (who is almost certain to get moved this offseason). Our options are endless. Just love the future of this franchise.
haha. i had the reply open too long. you snooze, you get scooped by J.R. death, taxes, and J.R. gettin the scoop.
Not to be a party pooper, but why on earth would Abreu choose us over a team like the Red Sox? Is it: A) We will offer more money (which I would be surprised by) B) He is guaranteed more playing time with us C) He believes our future is brighter as a team D) other??
A is the most likely factor B is probably a factor D maybe he likes the warm weather and larger Spanish speaking population.

How good do you guys think he is? Maybe it's his age, or the fact that he can't field for crap, but I can't get a gauge on how excited I should be about this.
