Still, the Red Sox had the 4th highest payroll, so the playoffs show money matters. Definitely a long way from MLB having any caps. MLB owners would need to agree to a salary floor and increase minimum salaries while possibly decreasing the years of team control. We could see the furthering of luxury tax at some point.
I'm sure they'd want to reinstitute the reserve clause and only pay minimum wage to players if could. The only reason contracts are going up is because owners are absolutely raking it in. The new national tv contract alone is suppose to pay each team like ~25 million more each year starting this season. Teams are rolling in the dough and you'll start to see that reflected in the open market for player--as you should.
Can't believe we have one of the best farm systems around, took 3 whole years and a whole lot of losing though. Will be interesting to see if these youngsters begin to pop, 2015 might be the year.
I don't see Jacoby even thinking about coming here... Choo could be a good pick up though. I know we have been trying to get the number 1 pick these last few years but we should really try this year to get better and actually win some games... You don't want the young guys coming up to get used to losing and it become a habit. I think 60 to 70 wins should be the (realistic) goal.
Crain makes a lot of sense with him coming off injury and being a hometown kid... but Rodney at that much seems like a lot of cash. Wouldn't mind seeing it though, I would just prefer to see someone that walks less batters.
I'll go out on a limb and say that there's no way that they will give that kind of cash to a closer at this point in time, if ever during this front office's tenure.
I don't know honestly. Ryan specifically listed the bullpen as a concern for 2014. I could see them signing a closer for high dollars on a short term deal.
I want Tanaka. Tanaka, Oberholtzer, Cosart, Peacock, and #5 could be a formidable rotation. Not sure who we would start the year off as #5, but 1-4 would be very solid and could hang with most teams. When Rodon, Folty, Appel, McCullers are ready: Tanaka, Rodon, Appel, Folynewicz, McCullers Hell, maybe make Foltynewicz or McCullers a closer, and keep the best of Peacock/Oberholtzer/Cosart to fill #5. I know I am California dreaming with Tanaka, but hell... It makes a lot of sense. You can never have too much good SP, right?
Only one of Tag's OFs I would be interested in is David Murphy. Grossman reminds me of McLouth. Hopefully he can be what McLouth was from 2007-2009.
I think Corey Hart would be a good addition as a corner OF. I wouldn't be against bringing Veras back and one or 2 more from that list to bolster the pen. Honestly, I'd prefer to stay in-house for the rotation. But, if they must bring in a vet, Vargas or Feldman wouldn't be terrible.
We "goofed" by trading Veras?? Marcum is "only" 2 seasons removed from 13 wins? What is Tags smokin this morn?
