You don't kick anybody out till they warrant it... with injuries and the sometimes unpredictability of late-blooming pitchers, you can never have too much pitching "talent".
Krause back down. That is all that is needed for now since Singleton was already on the 40 man roster.
I would love that. The Astros used to make moves like that a long time ago. After the super 2 passes, will be interesting to see if they make any moves like that. My guess is that Luhnow wouldn't typically make moves like that, but with the great depth in pitching we have, maybe that is how he decides to take a look at some of these guys. I would think it is more likely with Trop than Folty, simply because Trop is a "lesser" prospect . . but who knows
The bullpen is valuable... but not if they're going to only be pitching once every 5th or 6th game in non-important situations (basically what Jerome Williams is now). You also don't want to pitch them nearly everyday out of the bullpen in "every" important situation as that leads to a whole nother scope of problems (see Elarton). Chances are, one of the starters will either start to falter badly or get injured... and the next man will come up. Or, one of the regular set-up/closer/prominent bullpen guys needs replacing.
Oberholtzer is probably still next man up. He's had an overall good start to his major league career.
Tropeano in the Fields role could be interesting but Fields has been nails recently. Ultimately, it is clear that we have a logjam of not only quality pitchers but quality players in our system. It is a good problem to have but I hope to utilize our strength and turn it into a young established bat. Would make our lineup very hard to pitch to.
This. We need more bats. Preferably a big outfield bat. Maybe Santana can fill that role at some point
Regarding the Appel thing, I remember when Folty was drafted. His first year and a half were pretty bad. Plus, if you are throwing nothing but fastballs then hitters know what pitch they are going to see and at that point the pitcher has already lost the battle. Still, I would be lying if I wasn't a little concerned with Appel.
I never really like the tandem system. I don't mind maybe having a spot or 2 dedicated to the tandem system to look at extra arms, but starters need to be treated like starters. Results since they abandoned the tandem system in AAA Folty 5 G 31.2 IP 2.27 ERA 0.92 WHIP 10.2 K/9 3.1 BB/9 Nitro 5 GS 32.1 IP 1.67 ERA 0.80 WHIP 9.5 K/9 1.7 BB/9 Buchanan 5 GS 34.2 IP 2.08 ERA 1.01 WHIP 1.3 BB/9 5.7 K/9 I'm just saying, these aren't just slightly improved.
It is clear to me at least that Thurman's bad starts come from his inability to consistently locate his fastball. When he can keep it down and get ahead in counts he is very hard to hit.
Neither do I, but obviously some would not agree. McTaggart: Players of the Month, May OKC: Jake Buchanan and Domingo Santana Corpus: Tommy Shirley (2x) and Matt Duffy Lancaster: Josh Hader and Carlos Correa Quad Cities: Jandel Gustave and Brian Holberton
The 2-time Corpus Pitcher of the Month threw 7 innings and allowed a run (on a solo homer), 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 against Midland.
Anyone have a report on this guy from BA or elsewhere? I know very little about Shirley and he has just been ripping AA apart.
