Delino DeShields was activated from the DL today and led off tonight's game in Frisco with a homer.

    EDIT: He just homered again.

    Wow...good for him.

Did that ball knock some power into him?

Weren't you all apoplectic this spring about Peacock being in the pen and Harrell in the rotation? Or am I misremembering? I guess when you have a **** team with **** players you end up with **** options. Speaking of, who does have options on the pitching staff and who doesn't?

It's great to be a Stros fan.

And for good reason... I'm glad everybody else agreed with Harrell getting those wasted starts.

Right now I'm not necessarily for Peacock going down... just surprised that he wasn't chosen, based on him not having a spot in the rotation to start the season, and still performing at a sub-par level.

I also think its very likely he was off-track to start the year, as he got a surprisingly few amount of ST appearances, and then was coming out of the pen to start the season. (and I do believe he still has options).

Do you agree with the decision? You think McHugh deserves a spot after just 3 starts? Just seems a little reactionary to me... very unlike the analytical/well-thought-out/don't "overreact"/play the course front office.

Wow. So hard to come back from being hit in the face yet it never seemed to phase him. Kudos.

Didn't have much invested in him but I'm definitely a fan now.

Prospect of the Day: Conrad Gregor

I follow the MILB box scores everyday and the one guy who I keep waiting for signs of life, Conrad Gregor, never does. He was last year's 4th round pick out of Vanderbilt University.

He had a solid, if unspectacular career manning 1st base for the Dores. He has a strong hit tool but never developed the in-game power that he showed in batting practice. His career college averages were .327/.444/.446 and he had exactly 3 HR in each of his three collegiate seasons.

He raised some eyebrows in the Cape Cod league in 2012 when he hit 8HR in 149AB's for an impressive .329/.466/.550 slash line. Bullpenbanter said he had the best zone discipline in the circuit and many scouts believed that if he could carry forward that power into his junior season that he could be a 1st round pick. He proceeded to put up a .308/.440/.410 season with 3HR and 21SB and fell to the Astros in the 4th round.

Luhnow and Co are banking on his power re-emerging. Having plus power to go along with a plus hit tool would shoot him up the prospect charts. However he's currently struggling with the power aspect of his game. He has zero HR's thus far in 110 AB's at full-season Quad Cities. His slashline is .264/.383/.336.

Bottomline: Conrad Gregor has the potential to become a solid ML 1st baseman but its entirely contingent on his power developing. He can safely be tucked away in the 'sleeper' category for now.

Carlor Correa with a 5-6 effort today, which was probably overdue.

Anthony Kemp also had a 4-6 day, he is now 15-22 over his last 5 games. Rocking a .462/.521/.983 line, he looks like Altuve 2.0, in both size and numbers. We'll see if he carries that hit tool when he leave Cali, which frankly should happen pretty soon.

Teoscar Hernandez also loving the California league with a .310/.396/.556 line. He's always been viewed as athletic, maybe that approach at the plate is improving.

I feel bad for Austin Wates. All he has ever done is hit, but he hasn't gotten a chance yet.

He's hitting .350/.451/.507 so far this season.

He has a similar offensive profile as LJ Hoes.

Delino DeShields is currently 3-3 in stolen base attempts tonight. He's got 10 on the year.

“We’re not going to put a timetable on him. If you look at his development, he missed a lot of time last year. He’s making up for it quickly, and he’s doing well. If that continues to happen, it could be any time. He’s impressing everybody with his ability to handle pitchers from both sides. That’s an important piece for us. He’s got a lot of self confidence right now, and he’s becoming a complete player. That’s really what gets me excited about him.” -- Luhnow on Singleton

OKC only struck out 1 time yesterday. Pretty remarkable.

And at least there is 1 trade the Rockies didn't appear to win against us, as Wilton Lopez pitched against OKC last night (not that we've gotten anything out of the trade yet).
