While I can understand why you may think Rockets fans are overly pessimistic about Parsons the player, but how in the world are you questioning whether Rockets fans want to be "happy for the guy"? Do you also ask why Rockets fans can't just be happy that Scottie Pippen was one of the top players in NBA history? And applaud all of his success in Portland and Chicago?
Because we let Parsons walk in free agency and are scared that we ****ed up by doing so. Dude just dropped 29 points shooting an outrageously high FG%.
Why would Rocket fans root for a player who dismisses the team and city at every turn and is playing for a in-state rival? It's posts like yours and J.R.'s that are most odd.

I've watched a couple of their games and they do remind me of last year's Rockets. Top 3-4 offense in the league but mediocre defense and giving up leads.
He deserves a punch in the mouth for disrespecting Houston & for Boozering the Rockets…I can't stand the guy. I do miss having him on our team and watching him grow with us, but after what he has done & said: Good riddance. I hope we smash the Mavs every time we play them.
Never thought he would put up worse numbers in Dallas, but I'm still skeptical that he does much more than he did for us over a whole season. I guess we will see.
Can't help it, but Parsons relocation seems to be perfect for him. He is projected as the team leader after the older guys like Dirk fade away. In Houston he would, at best, have been the 3rd man after Harden and Howard. Dallas is a very well coached team and dangerous when the playoffs begin.
The only people who are scared are those who don't even have rudimentary understanding of the salary cap and think roster spots are the only thing that matters when it comes to acquiring players. Parsons = 15M per year aka max money aka he's supposed to be a max player now so those 29 ppg is supposed to be normal production. Parsons =3 year contract= no Max FA for us=our 3rd superstar would have had to be Parsons. Ariza=7M per year = Parsons would have to double Ariza's production just to be worth it Ariza= 2 year contract= We can sign a true max player in 2 years and still keep 3za via RFA if we want to Seriously, who cares if Parsons becomes legit in Dallas? Good for him, the Rox made the correct move to let him go no matter if he blows up or not.
Ariza: 17.3 PPG 2.8 APG 5.5 RPG 57%FG 59.3%3PT PER:23.2 on 10 shots per game in 33 min Parsons 18.8 PPG 2APG 4 RPG 50%FG 44%3PT PER:21.7 on 14 shots per game in 33 min Ariza has the more efficient, better start on a way cheaper contract and all that while Parsons is doing well
Parsons is going to score more on offense than Ariza, because he doesn't need to waste energy playing defense.
ariza gives us parsons production for 1/2 the price. but it really only matters if and when the front office and owner finally spend that saved cash on filling out the roster. until then the team is going nowhere, but hey at least the owner's saving $
I think we are going somewhere but is going very slow because of all the cost reduction, constant roster moves, rookie coaching. I agree with you we will needing an eternity to go all the way...... I guess the owner is only potent to reach the 2nd or 3rd round with his money, if you want one championship or more you have to go all in with the cash.
It's funny that you are talking about "rudimentary understanding of the salary cap" while you completely fail to mention that Parsons 15m contract went together with Dirk taking 1/3 of what he could have taken. And even you need to admit that Dirk/Parsons for a little above 20m combined is a great deal.
thing is there's little to no outside pressure on the franchise to strive towards produce a true contender. people are already accustomed to failure (texans) and content with just having a winning season. you have only 1 newspaper in town, whose lead writer (feigen) has been a shameless mouthpiece for the rockets media department the past decade. "if we had gotten pau+nene", "if we had gotten melo", "if we had gotten bosh" are convenient annual retorts. bottomline is though, les has consistently underspent on roster and coaching vs. our competition year in and year out. perhaps our only hope is that dwight starts complaining at some point with his window closing in.
