A book on the Erie Pizza Bomber, and a book of John Wayne Gacy. Also, the Emperor of all the Maladies.
Spoiler I hated the ambiguity. Was it real or a hallucination? It's one of my biggest pet peeves about endings. I'm loving the book on my second reading of it so far, and I'm very hopeful that The Prisoner of Heaven will clear some things up about that novel or at least put its events and Daniel Martin more in context of the entire four book series.
Slogging through The Kindly Ones by Johnathan Littell. Not a book you read in one sitting. Alternating with American Colossus by H. W. Brands. Just finished Bernard Cornwell's Grail Trilogy, which is good for what it is... a good story with historical minutiae thrown in. Next on the list is The Republic of Nature by Mark Fiege.
Ugh. There's a reason it is easy to read, and no, it is not comprehensive. Don't feel bad if you don't finish it.
Spoiler I think Zafon wanted to confuse us . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xYzsCtuKII I have some theories on the ending and about AC, Christina, etc. but I do hope that the next book clears it up as well. I guess I liked the ending more than you because I enjoy endings where you have to figure it out yourself (and I expect Zafon to clear it up in the next book ).
A little half way through AFFC in the Game of Thrones series. I had heard pretty awful things about it, and while it certainly isn't my favorite book of the series its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
What is wrong with some of you? What, were the Osama bin Laden autobiography and the Casey Anthony autobiography already checked out at the library?
I love this book. It's fantastic. If you enjoyed The Three Musketeers, you'll enjoy this one as well. All of the books in the series are fantastic. My favorite is The Man in the Iron Mask, but I would only say that if you've read all of the other books first. You're in for a great treat.
Trying to read Keeper of Dreams by Orson Scott Card. It's nice and frustrating because each is a short story, so easy read but makes you wonder how it would play out extended. Sort of put away Silmarillion, enjoyed it so far but haven't found time for it. I recommend Oryx and Crake for reading found it a nice dystopia novel.
I'm enjoying the Angel's Game a lot on this reread, and I don't think it'll bother me as much this time around, especially having a signed copy of The Prisoner of Heaven waiting in the wings. The first time I read The Angel's Game, I also had ridiculously high and pretty unrealistic expectations. I picked up Shadow of the Wind on a whim, and devoured it in one night and becoming my favorite book. I try to manage expectations when reading, because a good book can seem disappointing when you're expecting greatness.
I don't really have any books on my radar either. I'll watch this thread for recommendations. I may pick up Daemon as I've had it recommended to me before. I really enjoyed Red Country. Spoiler I wasn't disappointed in Lamb and Golden's fight; I felt like it went down well and as intended. We know what The Bloody Nine is capable of, and Glama Golden was really beneath his fighting prowess after he beat down Feared. So it was just a plot device to start the rioting. After reading about J.A.'s research for this book, I too felt that the characters were a little hackneyed but really fit the bill for a Spaghetti Western style story. I mean, aren't all characters in Westerns pretty much a cliche at this point? One thing I was disappointed in was the dragon at the end being a construct, not a real dragon, although I was a little disappointed in first reading that there may be dragons in the First Law world. At any rate, the book was ultimately about pushing the First Law world forward and the Bloody Nine coming full circle and accepting who he really was (he even says it). I'm looking forward to seeing it all come together in future books. Hopefully we see the BN take on some eaters.
I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Xmas. I downloaded a bunch of free eBooks from Amazon. So far I and read and liked: HOSTILE WITNESS by Rebecca Forster Dirty Proof by Barbara Gregorich Stealing the Dragon: A Cape Weathers Mystery by Tim Maleeny Westerfield's Chain (The Nick Acropolis novels) by Jack Clark
Unfortunately, some The Man in the Iron Mask books don't contain the Vicomte de Bragelonne subplot, which makes it confusing as to why Colbert and Fouquet were feuding and why Raoul loves Louise so much.
I laughed out loud at this. I'm a closet history buff(although I don't have tons of time to devote to reading about history). Stories about incredibly sick people fascinate me, for some odd reason. I cannot fathom how one can do the things Gacy, or Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, for that matter, did. If you've never heard of the Erie Pizza bomber, and you like true crime, Google it. Fascinating story. Many things (TV shows and a movie) have been based off of it.
