How'd they nab both Jones and Bush with just $6 mill remaining in cap space?

Guess it shows how much I know about NFL contracts and their hits on the cap.

They re-worked Suh's contract today, not sure how much cap room it gave them though.

NFL contracts are so perplexing. Seems like it's too easy to re-structure over and over again to free up money.

But my feeling is that teams that constantly do this will eventually crash and burn and be in financial hell. Just like the housing market crash.

Everyone keep your eyes on Baltimore, they just lost damn near all their linebackers. I think they could panic and throw some cash at Barwin

Texans playing it conservative with a window that stretches maybe two more years. What a sad, pathetic organization. It's enough to be good, but anything beyond that, well...

Wow Detroit is pulling in quite a haul.

As DieHard put it these guys are going to be cutting major peices by this time next year.

I don't care. Whatever it is, the Texans could've matched it. They're choosing to be fiscally responsible for future years and ignoring the rapidly-closing window right in front of their faces. I don't give a **** if matching Quin and Barwin might lead to a massive purge come 2015/2016, because the fact of the matter is, those aren't likely to be contending years anyway. Not with this core, at least. You have maybe two more years of the Schaub/Foster/Johnson era. If you can make yourself a bigger Super Bowl contender in the meantime, it's well worth dropping from 8-8 to 5-11 in three years.

It's pretty much the exact opposite of the Morey approach (championship or bust). With the Texans, it's what keeps them competitive and in the playoff hunt for the longest possible time. There just isn't the emphasis on building a true contender.

And another position that now needs to be addressed. We have to find some guys in FA. I don't want to go into the draft NEEDING to find at least 3 rookies who need to pan out starters immediately (WR, LB, S). Don't want a repeat of playing Newton, Jones, and Brooks on the OLine most of the season.

Agreed...that's my biggest concern. That they'll seek to address the newly created needs with rookies.
