Peter Gammons (@pgammo): Cards are asking about a SS as well as P. Interested in Lucas Harrell and Bud Norris of Astros
well, if anybody knows the Cardinals' farm system and prospects, it's Jeff L get er done loo-no (actually, just Norris, I like Harrell too much)
Norris seems like more of an AL pitcher (high K potential). Harrell seems more like an NL pitcher (sinking stuff that AL hitters will find a way to get hits off of).
AL lineups have historically been tougher... not just because of the DH. They have teams with higher payrolls, with a large chunk of that going to the lineup. The high priced pitchers in the AL are generally guys who can throw the ball by people. Not much place for the speedy/shifty/slap ball hitters of the NL. Willy Taveras would have never been able to be a starting CF on two World Series teams from the AL. (this is mostly in jest... I don't really believe any of this stuff as the stats are probably going to show that both leagues are more even than I portray... I just feel its harder to pitch in the AL vs the NL, and its not all because of the DH).

Prospects are putting on a show. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Rene Garcia hits a two-run, two-out single to give the <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Astros">#Astros</a> a 4-2 lead in the eighth.</p>— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) <a href="https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/313086333268664321">March 17, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Also, here's #1's RBI single. As usual, Timothy De Block of TCB on the job.
I respect your opinion, so I am not trying to sound like an ass, but you are basically saying that the AL is better than the NL, which is, obviously, highly debatable. Teams spend money in the NL just the same, and readily have both pitchers that are capable of striking guys out and hitters capable of hitting sinkers. I am not trying to argue, but your original statement just struck me funny.

The LOF are going to lose their minds. I was watching on MLBtv but fell asleep just after Corea entered the game. I was impressed by Harrell. He looked very good against what was likely very close to the anats Opening Day lineup. I think he could improve on last season. I just hope that, if that's the case, they do not trade him. He's young enough to be a part of the core. I realize that means he's worth more but it's time to build from the top down. On a separate note, Strasburg is going to win the Cy Young.
Wasn't last year his rookie year? I am not sure how close he is to arbitration considering that he is 27, but I would think it is a few years away. If that's the case, I can't imagine that they would trade him unless it was for an unbelievable offer.
