"The Cincinnati Bengals are among the teams keeping a watchful eye on Jacksonville State wide receiver Alan Bonner during today’s drills. Bonner has made a good impression during his team interviews. One scout described him as cool and unflappable in pressure situations with Percy Harvin-type ability. Bonner could boost his draft stock with a good time in the 40-yard dash." http://www.daytondailynews.com/blog...z/entries/2013/02/23/combine_buzz_day_3.html/ Sounds like a gunner on special teams and a potential punt returner
Texans like to carry only 5 WR. 4 of those are set. AJ, DeAndre, Martin, and Jean. The Texans might still try to sign a vet or maybe Bonner can compete with Maehl for that last spot until Posey comes back. He'll have to shine as a returner to make the teams purely as a specialist and I don't see that happening. Posey being out to start could give him an opportunity, he's probably a much better receiver than Holliday. But it could also be off to the practice squad with him. Probably the more likely scenario.
They both could get cut. I mean maehl is cut for sure, but if posey comes back I think jean could be gone.
I don't think Bonner will really justify a roster spot, either in receiving or returning. When Posey returns, I expect the active depth chart to be AJ, Hopkins, Posey, Martin, Jean. Bonner and Maehl on the practice squad if he isn't cut. That's without seeing if we try to bring in a vet for the minimum or not.
Well, we traded out of the 5th round and he was gone before we picked in the 6th. But I like our 6th rounder better. Heard a lot of praise on him, that he had a 2nd/3rd round grade by many.
