That means the Dynamo will be moving back to the Western Conference in 2015.

Kinda feel bad for the New York Red Bulls, even though I'm certainly no fan of the Red Bulls in most cases.

They got interest from DP-type players, tons of media attention (relative to most other MLS teams) and lots of network TV games simply because they were New York's MLS team. But now that NYC F.C. is joining the league, you get the feeling that NYRB will kind of become a second-class citizen, especially if NYC F.C. builds a soccer-specific stadium in the city, as the Red Bulls are actually located in New Jersey.

Why the hell does Manchester City need to be involved?

Money, it is always about money and you can probably put in the possible subtle promotions for the Manchester City club in the US, why not?

I guess for a friendly or whatever.

But you're in New York. You're telling me, there isn't a guy in New York with a hundred million?

They Mara's or the Johnson family couldn't do it? Dolan and MSG couldn't do it? The Wilpon's... Lol never mind.

They got the Yankees Hal Steinbrenner family in it. They couldn't do it fully themselves?

    What's your beef with it???
Apparently the "money families" and "monied people" you mentioned didn't want to purchase and start an expansion team by their own dang selves or if they did I'm sure the City owner would not have been the one to put down his money for the expansion team. It's not yours or my money or even Don Garber's money so let it be. I'm willing to imaging Mr. Garber sourced out every possible ownership group and monied person in the New York area before the Sheikh got involved. The money was put in for the team and that's that.

They should buy the rights to New York Cosmos and rebrand themselves. It's cool, old school, known worldwide and in NY, and they used to play in New Jersey. Everyone would be happy. I suspect that would make them THE New York team.

Of course, RedBull will never do it while they own the team, which is a shame.

My only problem is that MLS should be MLS, and let them do their own thing and build up the American culture of soccer. They don't need to do things like Europe.

I think the Cosmos would drag their feet too. I think there was some interest several years ago from MLS to make the Cosmos the 20th MLS team, but the Cosmos were being a little bit difficult about it. They were concerned that the MLS wouldn't honor the history of the franchise or something like that.

And now, the Cosmos have an ownership group that looks like they are, more or less, going to try to recreate the old Cosmos and spend a bunch of money to bring big names to compete not only in NASL (or whatever league they're in) but also in barnstorming tours and the like. They wouldn't really be able to do that with the salary restrictions in MLS.

I hear ya, but I don't see how the NYCFC/Manchester City ownership are/will be "doing things like Europe" and not building up the "American culture of soccer".

They have no say in that as the league is doing things in its own American way.

To be honest, i always felt that the Cosmos owners were simply trying to cash in on those brand rights. Advertise the brand, get the media to talk about it, get MLS excited about the Cosmos, and either get MLS to buy the brand or get an expansion team on the cheap.
Their actual soccer plans never made much sense to me, they were all over the place, talking about a million things, 90% media and advertising, 10% actual work.

Now that MLS went and announced a non-Cosmos New York team, I suspect the Cosmos won't last long. But their brand would be a nice fit in New Jersey instead of the RedBull brand.

For me the biggest concern is ending up with another Chivas USA situation were the MLS team is treated like the red headed stepchild and only used to market the parent team.

Rofl, or another MLS team being the red head step child to another team. **** sounds familiar.

I guess I don't see that happening because NYC2 is MLS and Don Garber's fav child. (Apart from LAG). They've wanted NYC2 for so long so I'd have to imagine at the first sign of trouble, they'll be doing what they can to resolve it. Unlike with Chivas USA.

Expect a majority of 2nd string bench players for tomorrow night's game. Brian Ching, Jason Johnson, Luiz Carmargo, Bryan Salazar, Warren Creavalle, Tyler Deric, and others getting more playing time in this tournament. There should be a online stream for this match, maybe on their website.
