Okay, so I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. It's the only Android phone I've ever had, and I've LOVED it, but it's time to upgrade. I really don't want to leave big red (get great service from them, plus a pretty decent price), so I'm torn. I want to go continue going with a Nexus phone, but the LG G2 seems to have everything this phone is offering and more, with the exception of the dev community. If I plan on unlocking, rooting, and (if necessary) flashing a custom rom, does the G2 make more sense, or do I need to just jump ship and go for the Nexus 5? Is there really that much difference in update support between Nexus and non-Nexus devices anymore?
I used to have Verizon and left them for the sole reason that they are horrible with the Nexus line. Honestly AT&T is on par with Verizon in terms of coverage in urban areas. Verizon is only slightly better in rural areas. AT&T is catching up with Verizon in terms of LTE coverage. I would leave Verizon and be open to a whole new world of unlocked phones that you can buy from anywhere. You will also be guaranteed the latest and greatest since no manufacturer gimps on gsm radios while many phones might take longer to come with a CDMA version or not have a CDMA version at all. This all changes when Verizon switches to Voice over LTE and all major carriers cease the use of their gsm or cdma networks. When that happens nothing can stop a phone manufacturer from making a phone that works on Verizon. As of right now Verizon has to give a phone it's "blessings" before it can be on it's network, which is why I left.
It really comes down to if you your network (Verizon) more than you value stock Android. Personally, I think roms don't cut it, they just don't provide the clean experience that stock android does as a whole. Like fchowd0311 said, AT&T is pretty good and is catching to Verizon in some ways. If you do opt to stay with Verizon, there is the possibility of some other phone or device coming to Verizon from Google later in 2014. I don't think you'll really regret switching to AT&T unless you're significantly going to pay higher for AT&T than you are currently paying for Verizon.
My Nexus 5 shipped!!!! Expecting a Monday delivery date!!! I'll try to post a mini first impression here when I have my hands on it.
Man I'm passing on the "bumper". Looks more like a case though, not like the true bumper for the nexus 4. The n5 doesn't have the sexy glass back that the n4 does though. Rather go for the ringke case. Mine as well went for the 32 GB if I was going to grab the bumper case plus shipping and tax. $35 is a bit steep for a case
Agreed. I also left Verizon because I knew they would never get another Nexus. It used to be cool to **** on AT&T a few years ago when they had no LTE network , but they've improved dramatically. My service is pretty much on par with my former Verizon service. Except now I can use whatever phone I want and don't have to deal with a big ass VERIZON 4G LTE ✔ logo on my device. Make the switch to AT&T. Now you can use any unlocked phone and get similar coverage. T-Mobile is also a great option but their coverage is still lacking especially outside of the city.
I went with the spigen hybrid cases since i got the girl a white back phone and she would want the white to be visible.
Mine shipped too (around yesterday afternoon), though the tracking info still isn't updated. I guess it could show up Monday (I paid for 2 day shipping), but not sure until I see the tracking info update. I've not checked out many of them, but the few camera samples I saw looked pretty nice.
i got the email late last night that both mine shipped even though one said pre-order and the other said ship by nov 5th. Not updated in UPS yet.
Originally, I wasn't going to get a case for the N5, but I decided to get the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case since it reminded me so much of the current case I have for the N4 (Ringke Fusion). Seems like a decent case for only $10 http://www.amazon.com/CUSHION-Anti-...qid=1383320353&sr=1-1&keywords=spigen+nexus+5
on your ringke fusion did you have that rough edge where the plastic meets the bumper? I stopped using the fusion because of that. I'm hoping Spigen is better in that regard.
Yeah, it seems like it does. For whatever reason it hasn't bothered me though. I just noticed it now after owning this case for almost 9 months lol.
How fast did you guys order to be able to have it shipped already? I was 43 min. late after the r/Android post and now have to wait til the 8th for it to be shipped.
I think I probably ordered within a minute or 2 of the site going live (they didn't even finish putting up options for colors, sizes, etc.).
Hopefully it's just like the early orders and they ship them earlier than the 8th. The early orders said by the 5th, and the 2nd batch of them said by the 8th.
I hesitated and mine says it will ship by the 15th! I'm getting it to replace a long in the tooth Galaxy Nexus. I'm looking forward to an upgrade finally.
