yeah i wanted to run to the car to grab some stuff but they said they wont allow me back inside lmao. what a joke of a festival.
Wow, that sucks. There are only two bands I really want to see today and there is a 5 hour gap in between performances. I really didn't want to stay the whole day again.
No re-entry is a royal hose job... It gets way too hot to not allow people a chance to leave for awhile if they want. My friend yesterday began experiencing heat exhaustion and needed to lay low for an hour or so - had we not had fancy pants she would been in bad shape. Bad policy FP. Can't say yesterday's lineup did anything for me save for wheeler bros (who I've seen many times), passion pit and Calvin Harris. Really upset I missed iggy but man the dance party at Calvin was too much to pass up. Japandroids were solid IMO too. Much better lineup today... With all this rain we're probably not heading out til 3 or so. Prepare for a steamy, muddy mess.
Yesterday: Japandroids, Paul Banks, Quad City DJs, 2Chainz, Arctic Monkeys, Borgore, The Head and the Heart, Passion Pit, The Postal Service, & Calvin Harris Plan for today: Ume, Emily Bell, Dawes, Mord Fustang, Cat Power, Matt&Kim, SOJA, Of Monsters and Men, Macklemore, TV On the Radio, Bassnectar It was pretty crowded yesterday. Also the no reentry policy is just stupid; you should be allowed in and out whenever you want.
Looks like they changed the re-entry policy for today: http://blog.chron.com/29-95/2013/06/re-admittance-to-summer-fest-not-allowed/?cmpid=hpfsln
After the Re-entry debacle everything was great. The shows were amazing and I think it's become a full blown festival. They need to expand it to make room for soo many people.
This was my first year going since the second year of the festival, so I was really happy to see how much it's grown and how the organizers seem to be trying to address some problems. Obviously, the in/out privileges on Day 1 is a huge issue that, fortunately, they corrected (after, by far, the hottest day of the festival when people should've been allowed to walk out and get some rest in between acts). Scheduling problems existed too, but that's not entirely in their hands when it comes to touring acts. The presence of two EDM headliners (Calvin Harris and Bassnectar) contributed a lot to "young" population of jerks in the crowd who were starting fights and yelling "BASSNECTAR" during other bands, like TV on the Radio. Remember: neon is a cautionary color and you should stay away from people who wear it. It feels like the festival is bursting at the seems and I can't imagine it getting any bigger, but I hope it doesn't. Eleanor Tinsley is a great central location and people complaining about parking obviously didn't check out the ghost town of garages that is downtown Houston on a weekend. My reviews: Japandroids: Great set, was excited to see them again after Fun Fun Fun Fest last year. Knew they would complain about the heat because they did last November in Austin. They're bodies were not ready. Geto Boys: For what it was, solid. But, a disappointment that Bushwick Bill didn't show (he was there, confirmed by a photo 2 Chainz posted on Twitter of himself with Bushwick, Scarface and Willie D). It's was cool to see Scarface on stage in Houston. Arctic Monkeys: Decent show, but I've never been the biggest fan. They did their business and got the crowd ready for... Passion Pit: One of the better sets I saw over the weekend. They brought a lot of energy and the drummer killed it. They were a great group for the sunset and the subsequent burst of enthusiasm that came with it. They played a lot of material from their new album, but that's to be expected, since they were likely tired of performing "Manners" after so many years. The Postal Service: A closer on reputation alone. The energy of their music is so laid-back and tired, the crowd was a little restless and headed for the exits after "Such Great Heights." However, there was nobody there under 25, as that crowd was at Calvin Harris a few stages over. One of the benefits of nostalgia. The Kopecky Family Band: Caught them walking in and they put on a great set for a smaller stage. Not necessarily the music I'd listen to, but the crowd was into it and they got everybody clapping. Matt & Kim: Spare me. After being told their stage show was great, I was disappointed that "great" meant "balloons and lectures on BJ hygiene." I don't want to see her try to twerk, mistakenly call Houston "Dallas" and try to cover it up by saying she's called Matt the wrong name during sex. Of Monsters and Men: Surprised me. They lost the crowd a tad during the middle of the set with slower material, but picked up again toward the end. The band is tight and the songs are a lot of fun. TV on the Radio: one of the highlights for me. They didn't engage much with the crowd, but the music was incredible and showcased why that group has built such a following. As the singer started to shed clothing, so did the band lose any inhibitions. The end was a raucous celebration and I left the festival feeling awesome.
saw connors twitter, he was giving out free passes to whoever had the most impressive use of his texans jersey.. some chick that turned it into one of theose "go green" grocery sacks won.. he retweeted a bunch of people tho..
Haha, no unfortunately not. I did see him at a Bone Thugs concert in Houston earlier this year though. Man... what an exhausting weekend. Saturday torched me. Postal Service was a good show. TV on the Radio had a great performance. Bassnectar was insane... shoulder to shoulder to say the least.
Barton we had pretty much the same itinerary it seems. I really loved Passion Pit and TV on the Radio. Matt and Kim was fun but not my favorite group. Japandroids were excellent as well. I was a bit annoyed by all of the children there to listen to the electronic musicians and I felt like a grandfather at the acts that led up to the electronic performers; despite being in my mid twenties.
