It was always clear that morey was a great GM, some people just overreacted to everything. Morey always made the small brilliant moves, and always keeping in mind that we want a championship. I'm looking forward to see him draft when he isn't swinging for the fences (trying to get a new superstar at 14), but drafting to get great role players (the Parsons, Landry, Buddinger, Brooks etc). Here is a gem from that thread, oh the irony.
Morey should be judged by the results on the floor, not the hype. He looks great today but how will he look if this team falls on its face?
If you go by results, Morey built a team that would feature Yao, T-Mac, Artest, Battier, Scola, Landry, Brooks, Lowry... Then that team lost T-Mac, then Yao, then Artest. And then went 42-40. A team lost its 3 best players, 2 of them stars/superstars, and was better than .500.
Is there a similar poll on how many people think Lin should go? That would also be interesting after this year.
I see your point but I sort of disagree, he should be judged by his moves. If you just went by results and your two star players get a career ending injury, it looks like you are failing, when in fact you could actually be doing a good job. Actually it is funny to see how the perception of about half of the BBS has changed. Morey has been doing the same great job for years, but still many people wanted him fired last year (because they couldn't see the big picture). It is nice to see people finally appreciate him.
Shouldn't he be judged on progression? If you got by results, then he would/should have been fired for the team not being a contender a while back.
Not entirely. The owner prevented him from starting a traditional rebuilding process. There is nobody who can fire the owner. Other than he leaves town and find a new one.
Not too sure how you could blame Morey for this joke we watched tonight??? McHale for sure has proven that he is pretty lousy at being a HC!!!
I like Morey for his player acquisition ability, but I don't like Morey for laying down rules for how the head coach should run the offense. I call the "layups and threes" offense a novelty that can win a lot of games in the regular season, but will never go far in the post season, where defenses play at another level.
Morey should get GM of the year. He convinced Howard to come here when everyone wanted him. He routinely rapes teams like the Knicks on trades. Most of the problem lies with the poor coaching not the front office
