I think that article on Norris vs lefties really highlights how tough it will be to get much value for him. Hopefully someone is just that desperate.
I think that Peavy is the key. If Peavy really stays then I think someone will make a move for Bud out of desperation. Luhnow is just waiting for his time to strike.
I've heard Ervin Santana out there as well but Luhnow is pretty damn shrewd so hopefully he pulls a rabbit on this one.
FWIW, if it means anythig. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/Dybt13">@Dybt13</a> yes</p>— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) <a href="https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/statuses/361975137886674945">July 29, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I'm fairly certain that these teams aren't just looking at the last month. And i they are looking at "lately" and not the bigger picture, 9 of his last 12 starts he has given up 3 or fewer runs. And if you are right that because his era is horrible the past month he has no trade value, then you certainly keep him, right?
I didn't say that. You said he was "solid" and I said he had an ERA over six the last month. His performance when scouts are watching can't help but be lower when he's sucking it up. You think it's higher because of it? If his 6 ERA helps us get the first pick then we should keep him.
Ok, cool. He is helping us get the number one pick then. But as I said, 9 of his last 12 starts he has given up 3 runs or less, so not sure that is a "help" as you say. There are also 33 pitchers in baseball that have thrown more innings and have a lower era than Bud. Not sure if that sounds like a big number or not, but when you think about 150 starting spots on mlb rotations, I would have to say it is a "solid" number, but that's just me. It seems like if a guy isn't an all-star level player, some people around here think they have little to no value. Thankfully guys who think like that aren't running the Astros
Did you read the data in article on Bud? Jesus Christ. I wish you were a GM in baseball so we could trade you super Bud for some prospects. SOLID The Los Angeles Angels are exactly the kind of club that Norris' skill set works best against. The Angels' hitters are predominantly right-handed, with their only four hitters posting an OPS more than .700 -- Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick -- all hitting from the right side. Norris has made four starts against the Angels this year, thanks to his new home in the AL West, and he's allowed exactly one earned run in 28 innings over those four starts, producing a sparkling 0.32 ERA. His ERA against every other team he's faced? 4.95.
This article is a perfect example of searching to try and find something that makes a player look bad, if you want to. I'm not a very good writer i'll admit, but if I wanted to show that he would be a great fit on a contender this year, i'd write it something like this....... Bud Norris faced the Red Sox early in the year and took the loss. But his SS that night threw the ball away twice leading to a couple of unearned runs turned the game in favor of the Sox. He only gave up 3 earned that afternoon while striking out 6 vs 2 walks. The Oakland A's are another possible playoff opponent. Back in April he gave up 6 earned runs to them and didn't get out of the first. But in two of three starts against the A's this year he has given up only 2 and 3 earned runs, while striking out 11 vs 4 walks. So he clearly would be a good option against Oakland for anyone worried about facing them in the playoffs. Looking to get past the Tigers this year? Well back in May he threw 7 innings giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 7 Tigers. So the guy certainly has the stuff to conquer the Tigers powerful lineup. Think you might face the Rangers in the playoffs? Well in the Astros first ever AL game, before a packed house, Bud led his Astros to a victory in that fan packed game over the powerful lineup posed by the Rangers. The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays have really shown that they are tough opponents this year and strong playoff candidates. Well in two starts this year vs the Orioles and Rays, Bud has given up 4 earned runs in 14 innings striking out 12, so he is certainly up to the task of knocking off those two strong lineups. Worried about a possible faceoff in the playoffs with the Cardinals? Well, while pitching for what has been one of the worst teams in baseball over the past several years, Bud's team has won 10 of his 16 starts vs St. Louis over that period, if he can lead the Astros to a .625 winning percentage of the strong Cardinals, just imagine what he could do against them with a strong team behind him! So, you are a contender and worried about getting past some of the powerful possible opponents this year? But is your man! See how easy that is
Do you really think that whatever we would put in the rotation once Bud is dealt would actually be better than Bud? Seems to me that if the number 1 pick is your goal, then dealing Bud would be the way to go.
we need to have a separate thread for trade rumor tweets and whatnot, and use this one for trade-related insulting, bickering, piss contests and discussion.
Starts vs this years current playoff teams. 2 starts vs the Tigers, 9 earned runs in 12 innings 1 start vs the Cardinals, 7 earned runs in 5 innings 1 start vs Red Sox, 3 earned runs in 6 innings 3 starts vs Oakland, 11 earned runs in 12 innings 1 start vs Seattle, 1 earned run in 7 innings 1 start vs Baltimore, 3 earned runs in 7 innings 34 earned runs in 49 innings 6.24 ERA
