Delino Deshields Jr. reminds me of Frank Thomas. Carlos Correa reminds me of Curt Schilling. Jonathan Singleton reminds me of Brad Pitt.
Greg Rajan (@GregRajan): #cchooks rotation for now: Hallock tomorrow, TBA Friday, Martinez Saturday, Foltynewicz Sunday, Doran Monday.
Stassi Homers in the 5th giving him 8 RBI for the game on 4 for 4 effort. Career night for this man. CC leads 13-0
He was in the lineup today, went 1-3 with a walk. Also, CJ Lo is doing rehab for Tri-Cities. 5 innings, 2 hits, 11 Ks, 0 walks. I think he's feeling okay. Considering he's 27 years old and on the 40 man roster, not sure what they're waiting for.
Tyler Heineman thinks 2 HRs by a catcher is nothing special. He had 4 hits in his previous 10 games, and decided to bust out and go 3-5 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. Lancaster has won 7 straight and has put up 10+ runs in 5 of those games, scoring 69 runs. Chris Epps is having the quietest .900+ OPS year you'll ever see. I guess those are the breaks for 2011 45th round picks. He's their #9 hitter, and launched his 8th HR today. He's 24 in A ball, and doesn't hit for quite enough power or have enough speed to be considered a real prospect, but thought he should get some recognition. I guess it's not that special when the Lancaster team has an absurd .850+ OPS and is averaging 6.9 runs a game. Nash also homered (#13)...and didn't strike out!
Preston Tucker in RF? Jason Castro at C? Matt Duffy at 3B? As of now Carter or Krauss seems like the only thing promising. That's an all farm team right now I think.
Wednesday Stories Walkoff in Greeneville! Max Stassi with the night of his career. To this point. Tyler Heineman has power?????????? Recap Oklahoma City was off They'll start a 5-game series in Nashville tonight at 7:05. Asher Wojciechowski will take on a rehabbing Hiram Burgos. There will be a doubleheader on Friday. Corpus Christi 13, Springfield 1 The Hooks started the post-All-Star portion of the schedule with a bang by destroying the Cardinals in the series opener. Max Stassi personally demolished Springfield's pitchers, as he went 4-5 with 2 home runs (3) and 8 RBI. The first blast was a grand slam in the 2nd, and then in the 3rd, he hit a 2-run double. Stassi then hit a 2-run homer in the 5th to finish his destruction. Preceding the grand slam was a solo homer from Michael Burgess, which put Corpus on the board first. The home run was the 10th of the season for Burgess. Also chipping in to support Stassi's onslaught were Drew Muren, who hit into a force play in the 3rd that scored Zach Johnson. Erik Castro hit a double that brought Stassi home after the 2-run double, and Jonathan Meyer hit a 2-run homer (9). Everyone in the lineup had a hit; Meyer, Burgess, Muren, Jio Mier, and Zach Johnson had 2 each. Preston Tucker, in his AA debut, went 1-5. R.J. Alaniz probably had his best start of the season, as he threw 6 scoreless innings, allowing 5 hits, walking 2, and striking out 1. Kenny Long pitched 2 innings and gave up the lone Springfield run on 4 hits and struck out 1. Carlos Quevedo worked around a hit to finish the game. Kyle Hallock will make his Corpus debut in game 2, and he'll be taking on Jonathan Cornelius. First pitch is at 7:05. Lancaster 11, Bakersfield 7 That's the 22nd time (in 77 games) this season in which the Jethawks have scored at least 10 in a game. They are now 7-0 to start the 2nd half after sweeping the Blaze. Tyler Heineman, all of a sudden, has found his power stroke. (IB "ROIDZ!!!!!") He finished 3-5 with 2 homers (5). The first was a solo shot in the 2nd, and the 2nd was a 2-run shot in the 7th. He also added a 2-run single in the 8th. Telvin Nash was 2-4 with a double, a solo homer (13), and scored 3 times. Chris Epps hit a solo homer (8) in the 5th and grounded into a force play in the 8th that allowed Nash to score. Joe Sclafani hit a 2-run double in the 8th. Everyone scored a run except for Delino DeShields, who went 0-4 with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Tom Shirley tossed 4 shutout innings and allowed a hit, walked 2, and struck out 5. Cam Lamb couldn't get anyone out in the 5th as he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Instead, T.J. Geith retired the side in the 5th, striking out 1. Aaron West pitched 3 innings, but failed to retire anyone in the 9th, as he served up a 3-run homer to Ryan Wright. He also allowed 2 runs in the 7th. West gave up all of those runs on 7 hits and struck out 3. Michael Dimock worked around a hit to finish the game. The Jethawks will travel to Rancho Cucamonga for a 4-game series. The starters for both teams are TBD. Peoria 3, Quad Cities 1 Rather uneventful loss, but the good news is that Carlos Correa doesn't seem to be feeling any ill effects from getting hit on the hand by a pitch on Tuesday. He went 1-3 with a walk. The only run of the game came courtesy of a Teoscar Hernandez groundout in the 6th. Jordan Jankowski went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 5. Mike Hauschild tagged in for 2 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Gerardo Sanchez retired the side in order in the 8th. Game 3 of this series has Jamaine Cotton.. by himself, possibly. He'll take on Kyle Helisek. First pitch is at 7:00. Tri-City 9, Lowell 4 The ValleyCats took the opener of this brief 2-game set with big hits late. James Ramsay scored the first run of the game on a passed ball in the 1st. He wouldn't be done yet... more on that later. Dan Gulbransen finished 2-4 with a double and a 2-run homer (2) in the 3rd. In the 5th, Ramsay would score on yet another passed ball, and Ronnie Mitchell hit a 2-run double. Mitchell finished 2-4. After the Spinners got a run in the 6th to cut the TC lead to 6-4, Ramsay provided the necessary separation with a 3-run homer (1) in the 8th. Ramsay ended up going 2-4. Tony Kemp finished 2-5 with a run scored. Conrad Gregor was 1-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Randall Fant allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 4 innings. Zach Morton didn't fare as well in his 1 1/3, as he gave up 3 (1 earned) on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. Richard Rodriguez got the win with 2 2/3 scoreless, and he allowed a hit and fanned 3. Chia-Jen Lo has probably made a full recovery, as he worked around a hit to finish the game, striking out 2. Tri-City will look for the sweep as they send out Evan Grills and Kevin Comer to take on Jamie Callahan. They'll be looking for a bit of payback, as Callahan played a starring role in handing the ValleyCats their first loss of the season. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern. Greeneville 5, Kingsport 3 Down 3-1, Greeneville rallied late with 2 in the 8th to tie, and 2 in the 9th to get the victory. Ariel Ovando, back for another tour of duty in Greeneville, sent the fans home happy with a 2-run homer (1, 2 season) in the bottom of the 9th. Before the rally, the only run on the board for the Appy Astros came courtesy of a solo homer from Jack Mayfield (1) in the 3rd. Juan Santana hit an RBI double in the 8th, and Tanner Mathis tied the game as he scored on a wild pitch. Chris Lee went 4 2/3 and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits (2-run homer) and struck out 3. Krishawn Holley allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 2 1/3 scoreless. Tyler Brunnemann allowed a hit in a scoreless 8th and fanned 2. Gonzalo Sanudo got the win by pitching a scoreless 9th. He allowed a hit and struck out 1. In the middle game of the series, Jandel Gustave will get the start for Greeneville. His counterpart for Kingsport is TBA. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern. GCL Astros 5, GCL Yankees2 4 in 10 innings The "2" signifies that the Yankees have 2 GCL teams. Javaris Reynolds hit the winner, which was an RBI single in the 10th. He also had an RBI groundout in the 8th that pulled the GCLstros to within 1. Jason Martin went 2-5 with an RBI single in the 2nd. Jake Nottingham was 2-4 with a double, a steal (1), and 2 runs scored. Yonathan Mejia was 2-5 with 2 runs scored. Tyler White was 2-5 with a double. Luis De La Rosa hit an RBI groundout in the 8th, and Luis Reynoso tied the game at 4 with an RBI single. Joe Bircher, on rehab, got the start and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and walked 2 in 1 2/3 innings. Ambiorix De Leon allowed 2 runs on 7 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 1 in 4 1/3. Raul Rivera threw 2 scoreless and allowed a hit and struck out 1. Jose Montero got the win, allowing 2 hits and fanning 1 over 2 scoreless. DSL Dodgers 9, DSL Astros 2 Well... not much to report here. Jean Estrella went 3-4 with a run scored, and Brauly Mejia was 2-3 with a double and a sac fly in the 6th. Luis Payano scored on a passed ball in the 6th. Junior Garcia only lasted 2 2/3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Juan Hernandez went 5 1/3 and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Robert Corniel allowed 2 unearned runs on a hit and struck out 1 in the 9th.
