http://www.mlbprospectwatch.com/ Houston Astros - The Astros have help on the way, and we should get to see some of it soon. Jonathan Singleton has worked his way back to Triple-A from his pot vacation. The Astros might not want to reward his idiocy with a promotion, but he'll become their best hitter the minute he gets to Houston. The real depth is in their starting rotation, where Jarred Cosart, Ross Seaton, Brett Oberholtzer and Asher Wojciechoswki could all get shots to prove their readiness in various ways.
Ross Seaton hasn't really shown he's ready for an MLB job in any capacity, and Oberholtzer seems like a future long relief guy.

Does this mean somebody from CC is getting a call or are we gonna keep wasting innings on Phil Humber ?
It means they needed to make room for Krauss on the 40 man before being able to call him up. With the Wates and Crowe injuries, Krauss call up, and Martinez trade there is definitely room in the OKC outfield for Springer. I would not be surprised in the least if he is moved up after the Texas League All Star game on June 25th.
It appears that Andrew Thurman is...... Randall Fant's partner. He threw a 1-2-3 6th and struck out 1. Nice first professional inning from the 2nd-rounder out of UC-Irvine. However.... Tri-City trails Lowell 4-0 heading into the 7th.
I'm really looking forward to Tropeano eventually getting out of the tandem system. Ever since we heard (from someone on here) that his velocity was a little down this year, it's seemed like he's struggled a little bit. Makes sense that it could be from only 4 days rest too.
man im surprised how seaton just flamed out like that. was really excited about him during the draft that year. just goes to show, high upside arms dont always pan out.
Domingo Santana has left the Corpus game with an injury. And Nick Tropeano was knocked out of the game after serving up a 3-run homer. The entire Arlington organization can suck a fat one.
Lancaster up 10-0. They're hot right now. Luis Cruz is pitching a gem for Lancaster. The lefty has gone 5 innings, 2 singles, 0 walks (1 HBP), 0 runs, 8 Ks. Cruz is averaging almost 11 Ks/9. Nash went yard, and Duffy has 3 RBIs. DeShields picked up SB #17.
Friday Stories For the first time this season, all 8 of the Astros' minor league affiliates are in action. On that note.... Happy Gulf Coast League Opening Day! Nick Tropeano's rollercoaster ride continues. Recap New Orleans 3, Oklahoma City 2 The Redhawks had to settle for the split, despite the fact that Asher Wojciechowski threw an 8-inning complete game. Wojo, who went the distance for the first time in his career, allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2 solo homers) and struck out 7. He allowed a homer to Matt Downs with 2 outs in the 5th to tie the game, and Donovan Solano's homer to lead off the 6th barely clipped the left-field foul pole. Brett Wallace's 2-run homer in the 4th was the only offense for OKC. Jake Elmore and Jimmy Paredes both had 2 hits. The Redhawks return home to host Omaha for a 4-game series beginning at 7:05. Brett Oberholtzer will start the opener against Justin Marks. Frisco 6, Corpus Christi 5 A 3-run homer hit by Brett Nicholas in the 4th off Nick Tropeano proved to be the difference, as the Roughriders have taken the first 2 in the series. Trope didn't retire any of the 3 hitters he faced in the 4th, and the homer knocked him out. He allowed 6 runs on 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Bobby Doran cleaned up the mess, and he was stellar in his 3 innings, walking 1 and striking out 2 while not allowing a hit. Pat Urckfitz worked around a hit to retire the side in the 8th. On offense, the Hooks pounded out 14 hits... but they lost in the column that counts. Michael Burgess went 3-4 with an RBI double in the 2nd that put Corpus on the board first. George Springer was 2-5 with an RBI single in the 3rd and added a steal (23). Drew Muren hit an RBI single in the 4th and advanced to 2nd on an error. Later, Rene Garcia hit an RBI single. He finished 3-5 with a double. And finally, Raoul Torrez hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot in the 6th. Enrique Hernandez finished 2-4 with a run scored. Also, Domingo Santana exited early due to an injury. In game 3 of this series, Jorge De Leon and R.J. Alaniz will be on the mound, and they'll take on Nick McBride. First pitch is at 7:05. Lancaster 14, Rancho Cucamonga 0 Jethawks scored 2 TDs in a flat-out dominating performance in all facets of the game. This was the 19th time in 72 contests that the Jethawks have put up double-digit runs. Let's start off with the pitching. Obviously, Lancaster isn't exactly the easiest place for pitchers, but tonight's pair has tossed a shutout at The Hangar for the 2nd time this season. Luis Cruz was excellent in his 5 shutout innings, as he allowed 2 hits and fanned 8. Kyle Hallock tagged in and threw 3 scoreless, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4. Mike Dimock, sans stache, threw a 1-2-3 9th to finish it off. Well, he's been without it for a week and a half already. On offense, everyone had at least 1 hit except for Carlos Perdomo, who went 0-6 with a strikeout and made the final out of an inning 4 times. 4 guys scored 3 runs: Andrew Aplin, M.P. Cokinos, Telvin Nash, and Chris Epps. Cokinos, Nash, Preston Tucker, and Matt Duffy had 2-hit nights. Duffy kicked things off with a 2-run single in the 2nd. He and Epps would eventually score on the 2nd Rancho error of the inning, one of 4 they committed. I believe Ryan McCurdy was credited with an RBI on the play, too. Nash hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd, his 11th of the season. He added an RBI single in the 5th, and then while Chris Epps was batting in the inning, Tucker scored on a passed ball. Epps proceeded to hit an RBI triple, and he wound up scoring on a single from Duffy. In the 6th, Cokinos hit an RBI double, and then Ryan McCurdy was hit by a pitch and Delino DeShields drew a walk, both with the bases loaded. And finally in the 7th, Tucker's RBI single brought Aplin home. McCurdy was hit by a pitch twice, while DeShields (17) and Aplin (9) also added steals; slowly but surely, the steals are coming for DeShields. At this point, unless he goes on an absolute stolen base frenzy, he's not going to threaten 100 steals again. More realistically, I think he'll settle around 65-70. Aaron West and Blair Walters will take on Carlos Frias in game 3 of the series, as the Jethawks look for the series win. First pitch is at 7:00 Pacific. Quad Cities 4, Kane County 2 The River Bandits have taken the first 2 games of the 2nd half. Despite 15 hits, they had to scrap across 4 runs. Hey, whatever works. 1 in the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th. Everyone in the lineup had a hit. Carlos Correa was 2-5 with an RBI single in the 1st that put QC on the board first. Austin Elkins hit a solo homer (2) in the 2nd. After the Cougars scored 2 in the 5th to tie the game, Elkins got another RBI on a forceout attempt in the 7th to put the Bandits back ahead. And, in the 8th, Jesse Wierzbicki hit an RBI single. Teoscar Hernandez was 2-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 steals (19). Correa, Wierzbicki, and Ariel Ovando had 2 hits apiece. Roberto Peña was 3-5 with a double and a run scored. Jordan Scott was 1-2 with a walk and 2 steals (16). Mike Hauschild had a nice outing, despite allowing Kane County to tie the game in the 5th. He went 5 and scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Jordan Jankowski got the W as he allowed a hit, walked 3, and fanned 6 over 3 scoreless. John Neely racked up his 12th save of the season, getting a strikeout in a 1-2-3 9th. Game 3 of the series has Colton Cain getting the start, and I'm assuming Juri Perez is his new partner. Their opponent for Kane County will be Michael Heesch, and first pitch will be at 7:00. Lowell 4, Tri-City 0 The ValleyCats were held to 2 hits as they dropped their first game of the season. Ernesto Genoves doubled, and Ronnie Mitchell hit a single. Randall Fant went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and struck out 4 in his first pro appearance. Christian Garcia worked around a hit and a walk to retire the side in the 5th, striking out 1. Andrew Thurman, in his pro debut, threw a 1-2-3 6th, striking out 1. Also making his debut was Zach Morton, who threw 2 perfect innings, striking out 1. Kevin Comer and Evan Grills will take the mound in the series finale, and they will be opposed by Ty Buttrey. First pitch is at 6:05 Eastern. Greeneville 9, Bluefield 5 The Appy Astros drew even in the series by jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the 2nd, and when things got a little tight, they got 2 insurance runs late. Jack Mayfield scored the first run of the game when Zak Wasilewski went wild in the 1st. Marc Wik was 2-4 with an RBI triple in the 2nd. Also in the inning, Darwin Rivera, who also went 2-4, hit an RBI single, and Angel Ibañez scored when Mayfield hit into a DP. Ibañez had singled to lead off the inning; he finished 3-4 with 2 runs scored and had an RBI single in the 5th. Tanner Mathis, who entered the game for Wallace Gonzalez in the 3rd, hit into a force out that resulted in an RBI for him; an error allowed another run to score. Gonzalez was hit by a pitch in the 2nd and I presume he was taken out for precautionary reasons. In the 7th, Greeneville suddenly found themselves in a tight game, as the Blue Jays got a 2-run homer from Eric Arce in the 6th to make it a 7-5 game. Edwin Gomez scored on a passed ball in the inning, and in the 9th, Juan Santana lined an RBI single to center for the decisive run. Santana finished 2-5, one of 4 Appy Astros with 2 hits. He was joined by Rivera, Wik, and Edwin Gomez. Greeneville pitchers struck out 16 tonight. Chris Lee got the start and went 3 2/3, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 2, and fanning 8. Tyler Brunnemann, the Astros' final pick in this year's draft, was the first man out, and he went 1 1/3, allowing a run on 2 hits and striking out 2. Alan Abreu went 2 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned, both on Arce's 2-run homer) on 2 hits and struck out 3. J.D. Osborne, in his debut, threw 2 scoreless to get the save, striking out 3. In the rubber game of this opening series, Jandel Gustave will get the start, and his opponent will be Tom Robson. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern. Gustave is a guy who reportedly hit 100 in the GCL last season (according to a chat with BA's John Manuel, subscription required) but he's got "little feel for pitching," owing to his astronomically high walk rates (11.55 BB/9 career). GCL Braves 4, GCL Astros 3 in 10 innings The GCLstros walked off with a loss in their first game. They only had 5 hits and committed 4 errors, partially understandable considering 4 of them made their pro debuts, and one was making his US debut. Brandon Wikoff, who's on the road to recovery after a car crash in Spring Training, was 1-2 before getting lifted for Yoel Silfa in the 4th. Silfa went 1-3. Yonathan Mejia scored on an error in the 4th. Luis De La Rosa finished 2-4 with a solo homer (1) in the 5th, and later in the inning, Tyler White chipped in with an RBI groundout. 4 draftees made their pro debuts in this game: Jason Martin was 0-5 with 2 strikeouts and a steal in his debut. He was in CF and led off. Jake Nottingham served as the DH and went 0-3 with a walk and 2 strikeouts. White, who hit 3rd and started at 3rd, was 0-5 with the RBI groundout. Brett Booth started at catcher and hit 4th, going 0-3 with a strikeout. Luis Reynoso was 0-4 with 2 strikeouts and committed an error in his US debut. Ambiorix De Leon went 4 innings and allowed 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and struck out 4. Raul Rivera gave up an unearned run on 2 hits and struck out 3 in 2 innings. Jose Montero retired the side in the 7th, and it was a bit of an adventure. He allowed a single to the first man he faced, Omar Obregon, then a sac bunt and a wild pitch allowed Obregon to advance to 3rd. He then issued 2 walks, but 2 strikeouts got him out of the inning. Jorge Perez, in his pro debut, threw 2 scoreless innings, and he got 1 out in the 10th, but after walking Ian Hagenmiller, Perez threw the ball away trying to pick him off, and he got wild, which allowed Hagenmiller to score the winning run. The GCL Astros will host the Braves in Kissimmee at noon Eastern. DSL Red Sox 5, DSL Astros 1 The Academy got on the board first, but the Red Sox ran off 5 unanswered for the win. Marlon Avea's RBI single in the 2nd was the only run. Randy Cesar, who scored on the play, hit a double that made it possible, which turned out to be the Academy's lone extra-base hit. Edwin Villarroel went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 4. Joselo Pinales allowed 2 unearned runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in 3 innings. And Cristhopher Santamaria allowed a hit and struck out 1 in 2 scoreless. The DSLstros will host the Royals at their complex. First pitch is at 10:30 AM Eastern.

I'm rooting for him to succeed. I believe he played Juco ball at San Jac, where I work. Didn't realize this until I ran into his former coach at lunch the other day.
In early action today, the GCL Astros blanked the Braves 8-0. A 6-run 6th blew this one wide, wide open. Luis Reynoso was 2-2 with a triple in the 2nd, an RBI single in that big 6th inning, 2 runs scored, and 2 walks. Luis De La Rosa was 2-3 with a 2-run double in the 2nd.
